Unattended Advanced Format (AF) Hard Disk Information Tool

DESCRIPTION:
The Unattended Advanced Format (AF) Hard Disk Information tool allows users to
view detailed hard disk information, such as whether the hard disk uses an
advanced disk format, the alignment of the partitions, and whether a disk is a
Solid State Drive (SSD). This package is available on supported notebooks,
desktops and workstations that are running a supported operating system.
NOTE: The AF-Check.Exe utility will not generate any output for systems with
RAID or SAS controllers, however, the VBS scripts will report on partition
alignment. AF-Check.exe does not work on AMD systems with Microsoft XP Pro, but
does work with Microsoft Windows 7. AF-Check64.exe performs the same functions
as AF-Check.exe, but works for systems running Microsoft Windows 64-bit and
Windows Professional Edition operating systems. AF-Check.vbs will not work from
a UNC path, but will work if a network drive is mapped first, such as in the
sample batch script AF-Check.cmd. AF-Check.vbs and AF-Check.cmd will not run
from Read Only media. To execute the programs, run the sample program
Copy-from-Read-Only-to-Writeable-Media-and-Run-AF-Check.cmd to copy all program
files to writeable media.

ENHANCEMENTS:
- Provides the AF-Check64.exe utility for Microsoft Windows 64 bit and Windows
Professional Edition operating systems.
FIXES:
- Fixes an issue where the utility report does not return correct information
when the system has more than one hard drive.
PREREQUISITES:
- Administrative rights must be used when executing the AF-Check.exe.
- The administrator account running the programs must have write permission to
the folder with the AF-Check files.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and
save the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where
the downloaded file is saved).
2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
The file includes four program files and a User's Guide. Please review the
Unattended Advanced Format Hard Disk Information Tool User's Guide prior to
using.
1. AF-Check.cmd is a sample batch script to manage the output from the other
utilities. AF-Check.cmd can be used to map network drive. It also runs
AF-Check.vbs while redirecting the console output to a file.
2. AF-Check.exe is an unattended program that runs in various modes to check for
Advanced Format disks and Solid State Disks (SSD). AF-Check.exe reports the
model, serial number, and firmware version of the disk. Physical sector size is
checked to indicate Advanced Format (AF) Disks. The Media Rotation Rate flag is
checked to indicate presence of an SSD. AF-Check.exe returns an error level code
to indicate AF disks.
3. AF-Check.vbs is a Visual Basic script for determining partition alignment. It
reports the results from executing AF-Check.exe to the console (notebook console
output can be redirected to a file), and reports selected WMI Win32_Partition
information. AF-Check.vbs also calculates and reports 1MB and 4K partition
alignment.
4. Copy-from-Read-Only-to-Writeable-Media-and-Run-AF-Check.cmd is a sample batch
script that can be used from a CD or read-only USB media.
