Type: Firmware
Version: 20120123 (January 23, 2012)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 W32, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit), Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows XP x64, Microsoft Windows 7 (32/64-Bit), Microsoft Windows 8 (32/64-Bit)

File name: M2720_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20120123.exe

Description:
This firmware update utility is for the HP LaserJet M2727 Multifunction Printer (MFP) Series and is for use on Microsoft Windows operating systems.
This utility can be used with a USB connection or network connection.
This update is recommended for any HP LaserJet M2727 MFP that has a previous firmware version. The utility updates the printer firmware to the latest version. The MFP firmware version can be found on the Self Test/Configuration Page which can be printed from the printer's Reports menu.

Installation Instructions:
IMPORTANT- Before the process starts: Turn the printer off and then back on to clear main printer memory. Disconnect the fax line prior to updating the FW to ensure an incoming Fax does not interfere with the FW update process (applies to 'nf' model only). Make sure the firmware being updated is for the correct LaserJet product. For example, if you are updating the LaserJet M2727 MFP Series the firmware file should be for the respective model numbered device.

The Firmware Update Utility can use either a Network or USB connection to the printer.
  • The HP LaserJet M2727 MFP Series print driver software must be installed prior to using this utility.
  • The HP M2727 MFP Series printer must be on and in a READY state as shown by the LCD display on the control panel and remain powered on during the entire firmware update process.
  • Depending on the processor speed of your PC, the firmware update process may complete on the printer before the update status progress bar in the flash firmware update utility on the PC screen completes. This is normal.
  • Once the update process has started, do not use your PC for any other activity until the process is complete.
  • Inform others connected to the product, both network and USB, to refrain from using the printer during the update period.
  • Do not power cycle the product or the PC until the firmware update process is complete.

  • Process:
    1. Download the HP LaserJet M2727 Firmware Update Utility from HP.com to the PC desktop.
    2. Turn the printer off and then back on to clear main printer memory.
    3. Double click the file on your desktop. An HP firmware update window will open.
    4. Select the appropriate MFP in the dialog window. If you assigned a different name to the HP MFP, choose the name that represents the correct printer.
    5. Click on "Send Firmware" when ready to proceed.
    6. The progress bar will begin to move to the right indicating information being transferred.
    7. DO NOT power cycle the product or the PC during this process or the product may become unstable and or unusable without further attention from HP. The flash firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Please be patient.
    8. During the product flash firmware update, the display on the product control panel will display "Erasing - Programming - Complete - Hewlett-Packard - Ready - Initializing - Ready". Once the download is finished the printer will be in the Ready state.
    9. At the conclusion of the firmware update, the dialog window will show a smiley face. Click on exit.
    10. The flash firmware update process is complete.
    11. If it is desired to verify the update, use the control panel Reports menu under Setup to print a Configuration Report. The configuration report will show the current firmware revision in the Product information block.

    System Requirements:
  • HP LaserJet M2727 MFP driver must be installed.
  • Must be able to print to the HP LaserJet M2727 MFP.

  • Fixes:
1.Added the "RFU" item to the "Setup Menu" to control remote firmware updates. The options are "On", "Off", and "Off and Locked". The default value is "On" – permitting firmware updates. Changing it to "Off" or "Off and Locked" will prevent firmware updates.
    2. Prevent corruption on the backside of some PCL5 short-edge bound duplex jobs.
    3. Fixed localization of outbound fax header date (month not properly abbreviated).
    4. Prevent SMB (Server Message Block) protocol data on network port 9999 from being printed.
    5. Close port 10002 to prevent it from being detected as an open port by port scan tool.
    6. This firmware version installs code signing verification functionality. Firmware signed by HP guarantees the integrity and authenticity of the code; meaning that the firmware was produced by HP (authenticity) and that the firmware has not been altered in any way (integrity).
