This package provides a utility to upgrade the firmware on certain Serial ATA
(SATA) hard drives (HDDs) for the supported system models and operating
systems. The firmware upgrade provides a preventative firmware fix for a known
issue.
IMPORTANT: HP recommends that all appropriate hard drives be upgraded as a
preventative measure.
The utility included in this package upgrades the firmware on the following
Hitachi Deskstar 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drives that shipped on HP Workstations:
HDP725016GLA380 (160 GB)
HDP725025GLA380 (250 GB)
HDP725032GLA380 (320 GB)
HDP725050GLA360 (500 GB)
NOTE: The included utility checks to ensure that an affected hard drive model
is installed. This utility only upgrades the firmware on affected hard drives.
If no affected hard drive model is found, the firmware is not upgraded.
After the upgrade, the new firmware revisions will be:
"GMBOA5TE" for the 160-GB drive
"GM2OA5TE" for the 250-GB drive
"GM3OA5TE" for the 320-GB drive
"GM4OA5TE" for the 500-GB drive
The included utility provides a ISO file, that must be burned to a CD. The CD
must then be used to boot the workstation. The CD contains all the files to
automatically upgrade the identified hard drive firmware.
NOTE: To boot your workstation from the CD, restart your workstation and press
F9 to enter the Boot Menu, then select CD-ROM from the Boot Menu and press
Enter. Follow the on-screen instructions.
IMPORTANT: This firmware update does not correct pre-existing conditions, it is
a preventative improvement only. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that a
self-test be run on each hard drive prior to the update. While the SATA
controller is in a non-RAID mode, the "DPS Self-test" option is available in
the Storage part of the F10 Setup interface. This test can determine if the
drive already has an issue. The test duration is proportional to the drive
capacity. DPS testing does not modify the disk contents or affect existing
arrays.
