customers. It is recommended that users update to this version only if they need
to resolve the specific PXE issue listed in the FIXES section below. The PXE option
ROM contained in this BIOS version resolves a specific issue that some customers
may experience. However, due to the increased size of the new PXE image, users with
certain video cards containing a large video BIOS image may receive the following
error after installing this BIOS:
"110 - Out of memory for option ROMs"
If you require this PXE update and get the out of memory error after updating your
BIOS, you may be able to work around this error by making the following setting
selections in F10 Setup:
Advanced / Power-On Options / ACPI/USB Buffers @ Top of Memory = Enable
Making this change to the buffers may not work for some configurations.
This Softpaq contains utilities that can be used to restore or update the
System BIOS on the HP Compaq Business Desktop models listed with a 786B2 Family
BIOS.
Several methods for changing the BIOS version on your computer may be chosen.
Included in this Softpaq are the following methods: ability to create a ROMpaq
bootable BIOS upgrade\restore floppy, ability to upgrade the BIOS directly in
the Windows environment using HPQFlash and the ability to create a ROMpaq
bootable BIOS upgrade\restore CD. This Softpaq has the ability to be used with
SSM, HPCMS, or PXE management software for remote updating of the BIOS.
The BIOS Family and BIOS date can be determined by pressing F10 on the target
computer during system power on to run the Setup Utility, and then selecting
File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text file on a
diskette or on a USB flash media device by selecting File/Save to Diskette. In
order for a USB flash media device to be recognized by the system, the device
must be attached before the computer is turned on.
