Hardware recycling

HP offers product end-of-life return programs for HP and other manufacturers' hardware in a number of geographic areas. The terms and availability of these programs vary by geography because of differences in regulatory requirements and local customer demand.

Recycle your toner cartridges

Working together, HP and our customers have accomplished the following:
  • Since 1990, 49,136 tons of toner cartridges have been saved from landfill (over 39 million toner cartridges recycled)
  • Average pages per cartridge has increased from 57% between 1990 to 1999.
  • Up to 95% of each returned cartridge is recycled and re-used in productive ways, such as creation of packaging materials
  • Recycling programs are available in 88% of our world market.
In many cases, you can contribute to the environment by returning your LaserJet toner cartridge free of charge.

Recycle your ink cartridges

HP is developing a recycling program for our inkjet products. This program is currently offered in the United States and is being piloted in several countries worldwide.

Returned cartridges are processed, and materials separated for purification into raw materials for use in other industries to new manufacture products. Examples of products made from recycled HP inkjet cartridge materials include automobile parts, trays used in microchip fabrication processes, copper wire, steel plates and the precious metals used in electronics and electrical equipment.

Product refurbishing

HP operates product-refurbishing centers in the United States, Germany and Australia, which take back used HP products and refurbish them for resale.

Some products are resold at www.shopping.hp.com, an online store that sells new and lower-priced, refurbished consumer products to U.S. customers. Products offered include HP PCs, printers, scanners, all-in-ones, palmtop PCs, and more. HP also makes a variety of refurbished products available to resellers for sale through storefront operations and Web sites. Refurbished hp products always carry a "refurbished" label.

Recycle your print media

HP paper printed with hp inkjet or HP LaserJet consumables are recyclable with normal office paper where such facilities or services exist. For overhead transparencies, please call your local customer care center for availability of recycling services.
