HP Scanjet - Scanners compatible with OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
 Introduction
HP Scanjet Scanners have an ICA driver to enable scanning with Apple's Image Capture application and/or software to enable scanning with the HP Scan application in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). Use this document to find out which Scanjets have drivers and software available, and the recommended steps to install each.
ICA driver available for Apple's Image Capture
The following HP Scanjet models have an ICA driver compatible with OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) for use with Apple's Image Capture:

The HP Scanjet ICA Software can be used in OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), OS X 10.7 (Lion), and OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). |

Install the HP Scanjet software to scan in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
To scan in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), use the OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) AND the OS X 10.7 (Lion) drivers and software.

NOTE:

Please DO NOT install software on your Mac from any HP CD that might have come with your HP Scanjet device. Unless the product's documentation indicates otherwise, this software is not intended for use on OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). |
Step one: Remove existing HP Scanjet software
Go to the Dock, click the Applications folder, and then click the Hewlett-Packard folder.
Click the HP Uninstaller
icon.
Click Continue
.
Select your scanner model and click Uninstall
.
Click OK
to complete the uninstall process.
Step two: Download the HP Scanjet software and updates for OS X 10.6 AND OS X 10.7
Go to
www.hp.com/go/support
, click Drivers & Software
, type your product name in the Search field (example: Scanjet G2410), and then click Search
.

NOTE:

You may need to select your product from a list of search results. |
Select your software/driver language and then select Mac OS X
.
Under the Software section, locate HP Scanjet Full Feature Software and Drivers for Mac OS X 10.6
and then click Download
.
The file automatically downloads to the download folder.

NOTE:

If an install window opens, close it until you have completed all downloads. |
Repeat the above steps to download the HP Scanjet Update for OS X 10.7
and then see the next step.
Step three: Install HP full feature software for OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

NOTE:
|
Installing HP software for OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is required to ensure that all of the latest fixes and updates are installed before installing the HP Scanjet update for Mac OS X 10.7. |
Open the download folder where the HP Scanjet Update for Mac OS X 10.7 was saved and double-click the file that you downloaded in Step two
to launch the installer.

NOTE:

Depending on your settings, you can also double-click the disk mount or icon created on your desktop when the file downloaded. |
If you receive a message '...Driver comes from an unidentified developer'
, follow these steps:
Click OK
to ignore and close the message.
Press and hold the Ctrl
key and then click the file that you downloaded in Step two
.
Click Open
in the pop-up, and then click Open
again.
Follow the wizard prompts to complete the installation, and then see the next step.

NOTE:

If prompted to restart your computer, restart first and then follow the steps to install the HP Scanjet Update for Mac OS X 10.7. |
Step four: Install HP Scanjet update for OS X 10.7 (Lion)
Open the download folder where the HP Scanjet Update for Mac OS X 10.7 was saved and double-click the file that you downloaded in Step two
to launch the installer.

If you receive a message '...Driver comes from an unidentified developer'

Click OK

NOTE:

If prompted, restart your computer. If you are not prompted, you may need to restart to make sure that the update is installed successfully. |
Troubleshooting error messages received during installation
When you try to install older software released prior to Mountain Lion, you might receive the following error message:
If you receive this message, follow these steps:
Click OK
to ignore and close the message.
Press and hold the Ctrl
key and then click the .dmg
file.
Click Open
in the pop-up, and then click Open
again.
If you continue to receive this message, you can also choose to override your security settings by disabling Gatekeeper. To do this, follow these steps:
Open System Preferences and then under the Personal
section, click Security & Privacy
.
Click the lock ( 
) in the lower left corner to make changes to Security & Privacy settings.
Enter the Password and then click Unlock
.
Change setting from Mac App Store and identified developers
to Anywhere
, and then click Allow From Anywhere
.

As a best practice, HP recommends that this setting be set to ‘Mac App Store and identified developers. |
Click the lock ( 
) in the lower left corner to save the changes.
