The Emulex be2net inbox driver version 4.0.88.0 does not have Flex-10 or Flex Fabric support for ProLiant c-Class server blades running VMware ESXi 5.0.
If a VLAN tag is added to a network (for example, from the VM Portgroup, the network in VC, the external switch, etc.), then the vSphere client cannot connect to the host:

The following server blades are affected:
- ProLiant BL460c G7
- ProLiant BL465c G7
- ProLiant BL490c G7
- ProLiant BL620c G7
- ProLiant BL680c G7
- ProLiant BL685c G7
The following Flex-10/FlexFabric adapters are affected:
RESOLUTION
Flex-10 and FlexFabric configurations are not supported with the VMware ESXi 5.0 inbox be2net driver version 4.0.88.0 due to a VLAN tagging issue. This version of the driver only affects Virtual Connect configurations and only applies to the inbox ESXi 5.0 be2net driver version 4.0.88.
Emulex Firmware Version 4.0.360.7 enables the use of new Emulex drivers; including the 4.0.355.1 be2net driver for ESXi 5. This driver addresses an issue with the in-box ESXi 5.0 Emulex be2net driver version 4.0.88.0 that impacts hp Virtual Connect FlexFabric and Flex-10 environments when VLANs are used.
Additionally, this firmware and ESXi 5.0 be2net driver version 4.0.355.1, when used together, have support for gPXE on Emulex based devices (with the exception of AMD based G7-series blade servers). This allows the new ESXi 5.0 AutoDeploy feature to function properly if the driver is built into a custom ESXi 5.0 depot using VMware Image Builder. The async be2net 4.0.355 driver does support gPXE as well as enable the Auto Deploy feature.
Emulex Firmware Version 4.0.360.15 is available as follows:
- Go to
www.hp.com
- Select "Support and Drivers."
- Select "Drivers and Software."
- Enter the Server model (for example, "BL490c G7").
- Select the specific server model from the "Product Search Results" page, if this page appears.
- Select "Cross operating system (BIOS, Firmware, Diagnostics, etc." ). This is at the end of the list of operating systems on the page.
- Select
Firmware-Network.
- Select the Firmware image for online update Version 4.0.360.15 and click "Download."
Note:
(the ISO component is version 4.0.360.20 but the firmware it installs is version 4.0.360.15).
