PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION
HP Optical Disc Drives with LightScribe Technology are Being Discontinued in HP Desktop Workstations
DETAILS OF CHANGE
Beginning in May 2011, HP LightScribe® technology optical disc drives will be at the end of their production life. HP will continue to ship PCs with HP LightScribe technology until the current supply of these optical drives is depleted. After the supply has been depleted, HP will use drives with equivalent features and functionality but without HP LightScribe technology. This will result in some systems shipping with HP LightScribe drives and some without. Eventually, all HP Desktop Workstation models will transition to drives without LightScribe technology. The time it takes to transition may vary by model.
REASON FOR CHANGE
Due to industry-wide deficit of certain optical disc drive components, HP has decided to transition certain HP systems to drives without HP LightScribe technology in order to help ensure product availability for our valued customers.
IMPACT OF CHANGE
Customers who ordered certain HP PCs containing optical disc drives with HP LightScribe technology will begin receiving systems with optical drives that do not contain HP LightScribe technology. PCs containing optical drives that do not have LightScribe® technology will not be able to burn LightScribe labels. For customers using software and drivers provided by HP, there is no impact to their software drivers or image.
DATE OF CHANGE
Effective Date: 2011-05-24
Hardware Platforms Affected: HP Z200 Workstation, HP Z210 Convertible Minitower Workstation, HP Z210 Small Form Factor Workstation, HP Z400 Workstation, HP Z600 Workstation, HP Z800 Workstation
