HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer Series (J611) - Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)

Introduction
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer. If you already set up the product hardware, and need software installation help, see Links to Software Installation Instructions at the end of this document.

If you did not already set up the hardware, follow the steps in this document to do so first. Setting up the All-in-One
Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the product software.
CAUTION: Do NOT connect the USB cable now. If you need a USB cable to connect the product to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during software installation.
Step one: Unpack the All-in-One
  1. Remove the tape and cardboard from the outside of the printer.

  2. Open the front access door, open the cartridge access door, and then remove the tape and cardboard from inside the printer.

  3. Close the cartridge access door.
Step two: Check the contents of the box
The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
Step three: Connect the power cord and adapter
  1. Connect the power cord to the back of the printer.

  2. Connect the power cord to the power supply, and then into a power outlet in the wall.

Step four: Lift the control panel display

Step five: Turn on the power
Press the Power button ( ) to turn the printer on.

Step six: Select the language and region
When the printer is first turned on, the control panel prompts you to select the language and the region. Use the following steps to set the default language and country/region for your printer.
  1. Press the button ( ) next to the Down Arrow ( ) to scroll through the languages.
  2. Press the button ( ) next to OK , and then select Yes to confirm the language choice. The Country/Region screen displays.
  3. Press the button ( ) next to the Down Arrow ( ) to scroll through and select your desired region.
  4. Press the button ( ) next to OK , and then select Yes . A 'Thank you for using HP' message displays.
  5. Press the button ( ) next to OK , and the cartridge installation process begins.

Step seven: Install the cartridges
  1. Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  2. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging, and then carefully pull the pink pull tab to remove the plastic tape.
    CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Also, do not re-tape the cartridges. Doing so can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  3. Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzles toward the printer, and then insert the cartridge into its slot.
    • The tri-color cartridge goes in the slot on the left.
    • The black cartridge goes in the slot on the right.

  4. Push the cartridge forward into its slot until it snaps into place.

  5. Repeat these steps to insert the other cartridge.
  6. Close the cartridge access door.

Step eight: Load plain paper
  1. Raise the input tray.

  2. Pull out the tray extender.

  3. Slide the paper width guide to its outermost position.

  4. Load the paper into the input tray, and then slide the paper width guide inward to rest against the edge of the paper.

  5. Press the button ( ) next to OK to print an alignment page.
Step nine: Align the cartridges
  1. Lift the scanner lid.
  2. Place the alignment page with the printed-side down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. See the engraved guide next to the scanner glass for help loading the alignment page.

  3. Close the scanner lid.

  4. Press the button ( ) next to OK . The scanner scans the page and completes the alignment process.
Links to software installation instructions
After you complete the previous setup steps, you can install the printer software with the printer CD or by downloading the software from the HP website. For instructions, click the link for your computer operating system and type of connection.
Important : Do not connect the USB cable yet. You will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during software installation.
