Original Document Release.
IMPORTANT : The Smart Array Controller firmware upgrade described below is considered a critical fix and is required to avoid SATA hard drives being incorrectly flagged as Failed by the Smart Array Controller. HP strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in data corruption or data loss. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

HP SATA hard drives attached to Smart Array P212/P410/P410i/P411/P712m/P812 Controllers running Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 3.30 may experience hard drives being incorrectly flagged as Failed by the Smart Array Controller, potentially resulting in data loss due to logical volume failure. This behavior is typically associated with heavy drive I/O activity.

IMPORTANT: This is specific to Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 3.30 and SATA hard drives. Earlier versions of Smart Array Controller firmware are NOT affected. In addition, Smart Array Controllers configured with SAS hard drives are NOT affected. Please note that Smart Array Firmware Version 3.30 is no longer available for download on hp.com.

IMPORTANT: The enhanced support provided by Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 3.30 for dual domain environments using Smart Array P411 and P812 controllers connected to HP StorageWorks D2000 disk enclosures configured with SAS hard drives is NOT affected by this issue. Customers in this environment can safely continue running Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 3.30.
