Advisory: VMware ESXi 3.5.0 Update 4 - The VMware ESXi CIM Provider Does Not Report the System UUID Correctly in the SMX_ComputerSystem.IdentifyingNumber Field and Does Not Match the UUID Returned by Integrated Lights-Out (iLO)

DESCRIPTION

The VMware ESXi 3.5.0 Update 4 WBEM Common Information Module (CIM) provider does not report the system Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) correctly in the SMX_ComputerSystem.IdentifyingNumber field. The UUID that is returned in this field does not match the UUID returned from Integrated Lights-Out (iLO). As a result, HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) is not able to associate the server with the server's iLO management processor. Any HP software products that have a dependency of the UUID association may experience this issue.

HP SIM will not be able to display the following association links displayed in Figures 1 and 2 below:

SCOPE

Any ProLiant server running VMware ESXi 3.5.0 Update 4 with HP CIM providers for VMware ESXi Update 4, and HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.1.

RESOLUTION

This issue has been corrected with an ESXi WBEM provider update.

To ensure the System UUID is reported correctly, apply the HP ESXi 3.5 Update 4 CIM Providers Version 2.01.11 Update CD.

  1. Navigate to

    www.hp.com

  2. Select the Support & Drivers tab.
  3. Under the heading Select a Product Category, select Servers.
  4. Select ProLiant/tc Series Servers.
  5. Select the appropriate ProLiant server.
  6. Select the appropriate VMware ESXi 3.5.
  7. Select the category Software - CD-ROM.
  8. Select The HP ESXi 3.5 update 4 CIM Providers version 2.01.11 Update CD.
  9. Follow the instructions provided on the Installation Instructions tab of the Software - CD-ROM download page.
