Document ID: c01725956

Version: 1

Advisory: HP Smart Array E200 Or HP Smart Array E200i Firmware Version 1.80 (Or Earlier) - FIRMWARE UPGRADE RECOMMENDED for ProLiant Servers Running Windows Server 2003 To Prevent A Blue Screen And STOP Error Message
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2009-04-22

Last Updated: 2009-04-22

DESCRIPTION
IMPORTANT : This firmware upgrade is recommended to prevent the issue detailed below. HP strongly recommends immediate application of this upgrade. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in sub-optimal server performance. By disregarding this notification, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.

Certain ProLiant servers configured with an HP Smart Array E200 or HP Smart Array E200i controller running Windows Server 2003 and Smart Array Controller Firmware Version 1.80 (or earlier) may display a blue screen and one of the following STOP error messages during system operation:

This issue only occurs on systems configured as described above when the server is also running HP Insight Storage Agents for Windows and HP Smart Array SAS/SATA Event Notification Service.

The error messages displayed above may occur in other instances. Therefore, in addition to the STOP error messages listed above, this issue is identified by observing the area of memory being zeroed. The issue will occur at a multiple of 16 MB segments in physical memory. In the system space, the zeroed area is always located at a page boundary in the non-paged pool area.

For example, perform the following to locate a zeroed area:

  • Locate Microsoft WinDbg debugger.
  • Examine the physical memory at a multiple of 16MB.
  • Observe the beginning of the page where PFN 0x3000 is zeroed.
  • Continuously use the !dc command to display the physical memory.

The following is an example of what Microsoft WinDbg debugger may display:
