HP Web Jetadmin Software - Supported Printer Features Frequently Asked Questions

NOTE: This FAQ document pertains to HP Web Jetadmin 10.X software. More detailed information can be found in the various user guides and white papers downloadable from http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin .
Question: How does HP Web Jetadmin gather information from printers?
Answer:
A HP Web Jetadmin uses SNMP queries to gather information from printers. How much information is displayed, and what functionality is provided, depends solely on the printer’s ability to answer the SNMP queries. HP Web Jetadmin will always attempt to query a generic set of objects as defined in common MIBs such as the Standard Printer MIB (RFC 1759), whether it be HP printers or third party printers. Printers that cannot at least answer queries defined in common MIBs run the risk of displaying very little information in HP Web Jetadmin if discovered at all. For HP printers, the 5si as well as many of our other models also use proprietary MIB objects. Earlier models of HP printers may not support many of the advanced features of HP Web Jetadmin simply because they cannot answer the queries or do not support the features.
New device support is installed along with all other updates via the HP Web Jetadmin install executable. The HP Web Jetadmin install executable can be obtained by visiting http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin_software.
Question: Where can I find information about which configuration options are supported by HP Web Jetadmin?
Answer:
The White Paper titled Supported Printer Features in HP Web Jetadmin is available at http://www.hp.com/go/webjetadmin under Documentation. Once a printer is discovered but HP Web Jetadmin, the additional functions that can be performed or the various pieces of information that can be viewed depend upon several factors which are listed in this paper.
