Question: What are the key items still missing in HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 that HP Web Jetadmin 8.1 provided?
Answer:
While HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 is drastically improved in many areas over HP Web Jetadmin 8.1, the following HP Web Jetadmin 8.1 functionality is missing in HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 but will be available in upcoming releases:
- Mapping capabilities
- Device Storage Manager’s downloadable fonts and macros capability
-
Cancel print job
- Exportable log files
-
MegaTrack In Printer Agent and MegaTrack In Printer Agent PIN plug-in
- HP Proactive Support plug-in
- HP Web Jetadmin 8.1 could save to a file (server) on a scheduled data export. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 can only send scheduled export data to email. With a future release of HP Web Jetadmin 10.1, you will be able to send export data to both file (client) and email during a live user session. Also, there will be a Save to File (server) or send to email during a scheduled export.
- HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 removes commas and replaces them with a space in CSV formatted files. A more appropriate behavior is to leave the comma and wrap the value with quotes (an example is "10,000"). This will be fixed in a future application release.
- The Reports Generation Plug-in (RGP) included the database percentage used notified. Newer versions of RGP have the ability to notify, through email, when the database has reached a percentage of its maximum size. This functionality will be added to a future release of HP Web Jetadmin 10.1.
-
HP Web Jetadmin 8.x had a directory where multiple firmware images could be manually written. This was very helpful when no contact with hp.com was possible and images had to be acquired manually via client desktop. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 registers all downloaded objects into its database so manually writing the files to directories is not possible. HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 will have multiple file upload capability in the Firmware Repository in a future release.
- Hosts.txt file functionality is not available for HP Web Jetadmin 10.1 discoveries. This was a file in HP Web Jetadmin 8.x that was parsed at the time the application started a Specified Address discovery. Customers used automation to keep the hosts file up to date and thus keep HP Web Jetadmin discoveries current. This functionality will be added to a future release of HP Web Jetadmin 10.1.
- Alternate log-in feature. HP Web Jetadmin 10 is now utilizing single sign-on functionality which means it uses the log-in credentials in use on the client workstation at log-in time. Windows Run-as is an optional log-in path but does not meet the need in some environments. Watch for an alternate log-in feature in a future release of HP Web Jetadmin software.
- Send file to printer from stored configuration template.
