HP Notebook PCs - Pressing the ALTGR (Right Alt Key) + C on a Notebook PC May Not Result in the Output of any Character

DESCRIPTION

This document applies to HP Notebook PCs with Microsoft Windows Vista

Pressing the ALTGR (right Alt key) + C may not output any character, instead it may bring up the ATI Catalyst Control Center when using the On-Screen Greek keyboard.

The ATI Hot-key manager uses the ALTGR (right Alt key) + C key stroke to launch the ATI Catalyst Control Center. Due to this, when pressing this key stroke on a notebook PC the Greek character for ALTGR+C may not displayed.

SCOPE

The specific notebook PCs affected by this issue are listed in the Hardware Platforms Affected section at the bottom of this advisory.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue perform one of the two following procedures:

  1. Disable ATI Hotkey. To do this:

    1. Right click on the desktop and select Catalyst Control Center.

    2. Click on Hotkeys.

    3. Uncheck "Enable Hotkeys".

    4. Click Ok.

    5. Reboot system.

  2. Change the hotkey assignment for launching the Catalyst Control Center. To do this:

    1. Right click on the desktop and select Catalyst Control Center.

    2. Click on Hotkeys.

    3. Click on Hotkeys Manger.

    4. Click on "Launch Catalyst Control Center".

    5. Click on Edit.

    6. Select the new key assignment.

    7. Click Ok until you exit the Catalyst Control Center.

    8. Reboot system.
