HP LaserJet P1000 and P1500 Series Printers - Updating the HP Software

Introduction
This document provides installation instructions for the newest version of the HP software and print drivers for the product. The newest version of the software and print drivers resolves several issues affecting this product, including the following issues.
  • Print jobs intermittently become stuck in the spooler
  • Print jobs sent to the product after a job becomes stuck in the spooler do not print correctly
  • Wrong model information appears on the computer when older print drivers are uninstalled
Updating the HP Software and Print Drivers in Windows
NOTE: This solution contains steps that require a restart of the computer. HP recommends that you create a bookmark to this page for easy reference.
Step one: Uninstall the older version of the software and print drivers
NOTE: To uninstall the software from Windows 2000 or Windows XP, log on to Windows as an administrator.
  1. Close any open programs.
  2. Click Start , click All Programs , select HP , and select either HP LaserJet P1000 Series or HP LaserJet P1500 Series .
  3. Click either Uninstall HP LaserJet P1000 Series or Uninstall HP LaserJet P1500 Series .
  4. The Welcome to the HP LaserJet P1000 / P1500 series Uninstall Wizard window appears. Click Next to continue.
  5. Select the appropriate product model name and click Next .
  6. The HP LaserJet P1000 / P1500 series Driver Uninstall Information window appears to confirm the product being uninstalled. Click Next to continue.
    The progress bar reflects the status of the uninstall process.
  7. Click Restart to complete the uninstall process.
Step two: Obtain the updated software and print drivers
Use one of the following methods to obtain the updated software and print drivers.
Method one: Update the print driver installation automatically using the HP Driver Diagnostic Tool
The HP Driver Diagnostic Tool checks the computer to make sure that the most current print driver and HP software is installed. It also makes sure that the product setup and software installation are complete and and updates, uninstalls, or reinstalls the print driver if necessary.
This method both obtains and installs the updated HP software and print drivers. If this method is successful, there is no need to continue with further steps.
NOTE: This tool works only on products connected to a computer with a USB cable.
    1. Open a new window to browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
      Right-click this link, Get Software and Drivers , and then click Open in New Window .
    2. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
    3. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
    4. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click Check to see if you have the latest full feature driver .
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the HP software and print drivers.
Method two: Download the software from the Web
  1. Open a new window to browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
    Right-click this link, Get Software and Drivers , and then click Open in New Window .
  2. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
  3. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
  4. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver .
  5. To download all the HP software and the print drivers, click HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver .
    To download the print drivers only, click HP LaserJet Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver .
  6. Click Download and then follow the on-screen instructions to download the software.
Method three: Obtain a printing-system software CD
NOTE: Some products might not have an available software CD.
  1. Open a new window to browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
    Right-click this link, Get Software and Drivers , and then click Open in New Window .
  2. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
  3. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
  4. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to CD-ROM order page , click CD - Software and Drivers .
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to order a CD containing the most recent version of the software and print drivers.
Step three: Install the software and print drivers
The method for installing the software and print drivers depends on which version of the software and which type of installation are selected. Review the following methods and select the appropriate method for the version and media obtained in Step two: Obtain the updated software and print drivers.
Method one: Install the full-feature software and drivers from the downloaded file
  1. Navigate to the file downloaded in Step two, Method two: Download the software from the Web.
  2. Double-click on the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Method two: Install the full-feature software and drivers from the CD
  1. Insert the CD into the computer CD-ROM drive.
  2. The CD starts automatically.
    If the CD does not start automatically, click Start , click My Computer , and then double-click the icon for the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Select the full-feature package and click OK .
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Method three: Install the Plug and Play Basic Driver from the downloaded file
Three options are available for installing the Plug and Play Basic Driver, depending on how the product is connected to the computer. Each option has different steps for installation. Review the following options and select the appropriate method for the product.
Option one: Install the print driver for a USB-connected product
Use this method if the old version of the print driver is removed and the product is connected to the computer with a USB cable.
  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Navigate to the file downloaded in Step two, Method two: Download the software from the Web.
  3. Double-click on the file and click Unzip to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the print driver.
  4. After the file copying is complete, a dialog box appears, containing an instruction to make sure the product is connected to the computer and turned on. Click OK , connect the USB cable, and then turn the product on.

  5. After the installation is complete, a dialog box appears, indicating that the installation operation completed successfully. Click OK .
  6. Press the Go button on the product control panel to print a configuration page.
    If the configuration page prints, the installation is complete and there is no need to continue with further steps.
    If the configuration page does not print, restart the computer and try printing the configuration page again.
Option two: Install the print driver for a network-connected product
Use this method if the old version of the print driver is removed and the product is connected to the computer over a network.
  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Navigate to the file downloaded in Step two, Method two: Download the software from the Web.
  3. Double-click on the file and click Unzip to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the print driver.
  4. After the file copying is complete, a dialog box appears, containing an instruction to make sure the product is connected to the computer and turned on. Click OK .

  5. A dialog box appears, indicating that the computer is looking for new devices. Click Cancel .

  6. A dialog box indicating that the installation failed appears on the computer. The print drivers have been installed, however. Click OK .

  7. Connect the network cable to the product and turn the product on.
  8. When the product is in a ready state, press the Go button on the product control panel to print a network configuration page.
  9. Locate the IP address of the product on the network configuration page. The IP address resembles a series of numbers separated by dots. For example, 128.0.0.1 is an IP address.
  10. Click Start , click Run , and then copy and paste or type the following command into the Open box.

    The Printers & Faxes window appears.
  11. In the left pane of the Printers & Faxes window, click Add a Printer . The Add Printer Wizard window appears.
  12. Click Next to begin adding the printer, select Local printer attached to this computer , and then click Next again.
  13. In the Select a printer port dialog box, select Create a new port , click the arrow next to the drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port , and then click Next .

  14. Type the IP address from the network configuration page in the Printer Name or IP Address box and click Next .

  15. On the next screen, select HP from the Manufacturer list and then select HP LaserJet P1505n Version: 1.0.5.0 [4/18/2008] from the Printers menu.

  16. Click Next and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
  17. Press the Go button on the product control panel to print another configuration page.
    If the configuration page prints, the installation is complete and there is no need to continue with further steps.
    If the configuration page does not print, restart the computer and try printing the configuration page again.
Option three: Upgrade the print driver for a USB-connected or network-connected product
Use this method if the old version of the print driver is not removed. The connection type does not affect the steps.
  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Navigate to the file downloaded in Step two, Method two: Download the software from the Web.
  3. Double-click on the file and click Unzip to begin the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the print driver.
  4. After the file copying is complete, a dialog box appears, containing an instruction to make sure the product is connected to the computer and turned on. Click OK .

  5. A dialog box appears, indicating that the computer is looking for new devices. Click Cancel .

  6. A dialog box indicating that the installation failed appears on the computer. The print drivers have been installed, however. Click OK .

  7. Click Start , click Run , and then copy and paste or type the following command into the Open box.

  8. Right-click the icon for the product and select Properties .
  9. Click the Advanced tab and then click New Driver . The Add Printer Driver Wizard window appears.

  10. Select HP from the Manufacturer list and then select HP LaserJet P1505n Version: 1.0.5.0 [4/18/2008] from the Printers menu.

  11. Click Next and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
  12. Press the Go button on the product control panel to print another configuration page.
    If the configuration page prints, the installation is complete and there is no need to continue with further steps.
    If the configuration page does not print, restart the computer and try printing the configuration page again.
