HP LaserJet P1005, P1006, P1007, P1008, and P1009 Printers - Setting Up the LaserJet (Hardware)
Introduction
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before
you install the product software on your computer. If you already set up the product hardware, and need software installation help, see Links to Software Installation Instructions
at the end of this document.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the product software.

Do NOT connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the product to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during software installation. |
Step one: Unpack the printer
Remove all the orange shipping tape and packaging material from the product.

Step two: Check the contents of the box
The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.
Step three: Install the print cartridge
Open
the print cartridge door.

Remove the new print cartridge from
the packaging.

To prevent damage to the print cartridge, hold the print
cartridge at each end. |
Pull the tab to remove all the sealing tape from the print cartridge. Put the tab in the print cartridge box to return for recycling.

Gently rock the print cartridge back and forth to distribute the toner evenly.

Insert the print cartridge, and then close the print cartridge door.

If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash the clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into the fabric. |
Step four: Connect the power cord
Connect the power cord to the rear of the product.

Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
Step five: Turn on power
Press the Power button ( 
) to turn on the product.

Step six: Load plain paper
To load plain paper in the main input tray, follow these steps.
Slide the paper length and width guides to their outermost positions.

Load plain paper in the main input tray with the top forward and the print side up. |
NOTE:

To prevent jams and skewing, always adjust the side and front paper guides.
|
Slide the paper guides inward so that they rest against the stack of paper.

After you complete the previous setup steps, you can install the product software with the product CD or by downloading the software from the HP Web site. For instructions, click the link for your computer operating system and type of connection.
