Original Document Release

In 2007, the beginning and ending dates for Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the United States changed to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Under the new law, Daylight Saving Time began on the second Sunday of March and will end on the first Sunday of November, extending the timeframe by four weeks. Due to this DST change, operating system and application software updates might be required to ensure that the system clock on HP products is accurate.
This is not unique to HP products. All devices that automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time and support operating systems or software relying on a local time zone that observes DST are affected by the 2007 DST change.
Several other countries, including Canada and Bermuda, are implementing the same DST change, and other countries are expected to make similar changes. For a complete listing of the World Wide Daylight Savings time schedule and which countries are changing DST schedules along with the US, go to the following URL:
http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/g.html
Major operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, and Linux, have patches available for this change. These patches can be obtained from your operating system vendor. Java applications have a special problem because Java ships with a time zone database that defines the Daylight Savings Time period.
Products that use older versions of Java will report incorrect times until their time zone database is updated. Until then, HP Storage Essentials Storage Resource Managment (SRM) users can expect timestamps to be off by one hour for the affected periods of March 11 through April 1, 2007 and October 28 throught November 4, 2007. Scheduled jobs will also execute one hour off from the time requested.
NOTE: Non-U.S. sites are not affected by this change and do not need this patch. U.S. locations that do not use Daylight Saving Time are also not affected. These include Hawaii, most of Arizona, and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.
These instructions describe how to update your time zone database for your currently installed version of Storage Essentials.
