Added information on how to Locate ProLiant Customer documents on HP.com. Supersedes CN0259W (Revision 0)

The HP.com website provides customers with multiple methods of locating information. Customers can either navigate to the information or search using text strings or keywords. Advisories and Notices are available in both the Business Support Center (BSC) and the IT Resource Center (ITRC). This document provides tips for locating documents on the Business Support Center (BSC).

When searching the HP.com website for information such as ProLiant server Customer Advisories and Customer Notices, HP recommends using specific criteria in order to allow the search engine to perform optimally. Using the "Troubleshoot a problem" option and the "See More..." option when navigating the HP.com website will retrieve the maximum amount of relevant information.

This document provides answers to the following questions:

  • How do I find information using search strings?
  • How Do I Find Support Information For My Product Navigating HP.com using the "Troubleshoot a problem" option?
  • How Do I Find Support Information For My Product Navigating HP.com using the "See More..." category?
  • What other types of information can I find on the Technical Support Pages?
DETAILS

Advisories are located in two places on HP.com; under the Business Support Center and the IT Resource Center. This document focuses on the BSC because it does not require a logon. All Figures in this Notice are regarding the BSC. For additional information regarding the ITRC, refer to the following URL:

http://itrc.hp.com/

Business Support Center (BSC)

HP's Business Support Center provides quick answers to technical support questions for personal computing and printing products. At the HP BSC, customers can quickly and cost-effectively self-solve computing and printing issues. The information below pertains to the BSC.

SEARCH HP.COM

What are the best search criteria to use when using the search engine on HP.com?

TIP: Customer Advisories and Notices can be located using third party search engines. This document is specific to using the HP search engine and the navigate feature on HP.com.

The HP search application does not recognize the Boolean operators "AND," "OR" and "NOT" but instead employs a simplified search syntax based upon the plus (+) and minus (-) operators. Consult the table at the URL below for instructions on their use in HP's search application:

http://search.hp.com/help.html?lk=1&rf=2&la=en&uf=1&es=0&ep=0

For example, when searching for Customer Advisories on Linux and ProLiant servers, use a search string similar to the following:

+advisory +Linux

Note: Entering "Linux" + "advisory" may enable the search engine to return more documents than entering only one of the keywords.

Below are some additional examples of search strings that can be used to locate ProLiant Server Customer Advisories and Customer Notices under the BSC:

  • When searching for Customer Notices on Insight Manager and ProLiant servers, use a search string similar to the following:
    +notice +Insight Manager
  • When searching for Customer Advisories on Microsoft and ProLiant servers, use a search string similar to the following:
    +advisory +Microsoft
  • When searching for Customer Advisories on SmartStart and ProLiant servers, use a search string similar to the following:
    +advisory +SmartStart

Note: Keywords will vary depending upon desired search results. The examples above are based on searching for Linux, Insight Manager, Microsoft, and SmartStart related documents.

NAVIGATE HP.COM

HP is committed to providing an efficient web navigational experience for ProLiant server customers. Customers will be able to easily locate support documentation for their ProLiant servers and options. You can navigate HP.com using either of the following ways:

  • Navigate HP.com using the "Troubleshoot a problem" option.
  • Navigate HP.com using the "See More..." option.

How Do I Find Support Information For My Product Navigating HP.com using the "Troubleshoot a problem" option?

When navigating HP.com using the "Troubleshoot a problem" option, the Advisories and Notices are organized by date (most recent to least recent).

Step 1 - Browse to the support and drivers page at the following URL:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html .

Step 2 - Choose the radio button, " See Support and Troubleshooting Information " and enter a product name in the product name field.

Note: As an option, the link titled "Servers" can be chosen and specific products can then be selected from a list.

TIP: Customers can select "Download Drivers and Software" to get all of the latest drivers, patches, and other support software for ProLiant servers and options.

TIP: Want to receive Customer Advisories and Notices proactively via email? Sign up for Subscriber's Choice notifications. Just click on the link, "Sign up: driver, support, and security alerts" in the "additional resources" box on the support and drivers page.

Once a product has been chosen (for example, the ProLiant DL380 G5 as shown in Figure 2 below) the Business Support Center-Technical Support page is then displayed.

From this Technical Support page, virtually all available information related to a particular product can be accessed.

Step 3 - Click on " Troubleshoot a problem " shown in Figure 2 above. The following list of categories will be displayed:

How Do I Find Support Information For My Product Navigating HP.com using the "See More..." option?

When navigating HP.com using the "See More..." option (shown in Figure 2 above), the Advisories and Notices are not organized by date. After clicking on the "Customer Advisories" or "Customer Notices" option (shown in Figure 4 below) a list of Advisories or Notices will be displayed. Press CTRL+F and type in some or all of the requested information to find an Advisory or Notice specific to that information. The title of the Advisory and Notice include details and error message. When searching for a particular error message, press CTRL+F and type in some or all of the message text to find an advisory or notice specific to that message. Including these things in the search will retrieve the maximum amount of relevant information.

Step 1 - Click on "See More.." shown in Figure 2 above instead of "Troubleshoot a Problem." The Business Support Center Self-Help resources page is then displayed.

Step 2 - Click on "Customer Advisories" or "Customer Notices."

Step 3 - Press CTRL+F and type in some or all of the requested information.

TIP: HP is committed to providing the latest support information to our customers. The title of high priority Advisories and Notices are prominently displayed with text in all capital letters, for example, CUSTOMER ATTENTION REQUIRED and FIRMWARE UPGRADE REQUIRED (shown in Figure 5 below). Viewing these documents provides important information.

The enhanced navigational capabilities allow customers to focus on specifics that are particular to their configuration, making locating support information quick and easy. With the sub-categories, customers can readily locate Advisories and Notices pertaining to, for example, a specific version of an operating system rather than having to search a broader category containing all operating systems. Refer to the table below for some helpful hints on the type of documents that can be found within each category:
