The following procedures are meant to be used by CCC agents on the phone with customers who are having problems with the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox. HP does not recommend that customers use these procedures without assistance from HP Customer Care.
HP Toolbox Troubleshooting tab
HP Toolbox includes a Troubleshooting tab that contains links to the following main pages:
  • Clearing Jams . View information about locating and clearing jams.
  • Print Problems . View Help topics that can help you solve print problems.
  • Troubleshooting Tools . Employ such troubleshooting tools as a cleaning page or a color troubleshooting page to maintain the device.
  • Animated Demonstrations . View animated Help demonstrations for the device.
NOTE: Other tabs on HP Toolbox might be helpful in troubleshooting device problems.
The HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox will not connect.
If the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox will not connect, the users will see an error page, a partial page, or a blank page in the browser. Try these steps to solve the problem.
  1. Go through the basic troubleshooting steps.
    • Ensure that the cable connections between the printer and the computer are secure.
    • Check to make sure that the printer has an adequate power supply and that the printer is turned on and in the READY state.
NOTE: The HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox takes about 1 minute to reconnect to the printer after the printer has been turned off and then turned on again. Make sure the user has waited for a full minute for the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox to connect.
    • If the printer is networked through Microsoft sharing, verify that no one else on the network is printing a large print job. The HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox does not connect until all print jobs have cleared the spooler.
  2. Try to send a print job to the printer from any Microsoft Windows application.
  3. Delete all the print jobs from the print spooler. You can gain access to the print spooler by double-clicking the printer icon in the Microsoft Windows system tray. If the print jobs will not delete, go to step 4.
NOTE: The print job ZlmsHttpServer_ appears in the spooler each time the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox connects to the printer to gather information (for example, when the user opens the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox or clicks to see the Device Settings , Device Status , or Supplies Status pages.)Normally, the ZlmsHttpServer_ print job disappears from the print spooler automatically. However, if the print job remains in the spooler, delete it.
  4. Restart the computer .
    - OR -
If you don't want to restart the computer, go to step 5.
  5. Use the net stop/net start command to reset the spooler. Follow these steps.
    • On the Microsoft Windows Taskbar, click Start , and then click Run .
    • In the Open field, type cmd , and then click OK . A DOS window appears.
    • At the command prompt, type net stop spooler , and then press Enter on your computer keyboard.
    • At the next command prompt, type net start spooler , and then press Enter .
    • Click the X to close the DOS window.
If you are using a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you must also end the ZHHP1600.exe process. Follow these steps.
    • Open the Microsoft Windows Task Manager by right-clicking the Microsoft Windows Taskbar, and then clicking Task Manager .
    • Click the Properties tab.
    • Click to highlight the ZHHP1600.exe process in the list of processes, and then click End Process , as in the following illustration.
Figure 1: Ending the ZHHP1600.exe process
    • Click the X to close the Task Manager.
The HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox pages are garbled.
If the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox pages are displaying garbled text, the .DLL file responsible for HTML translation might have become corrupted when the user installed the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software. To fix the problem, uninstall the software, and then reinstall.
The pop-up alerts are not appearing.
Try these steps to solve the problem.
  1. The user might have turned off alerts in the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox. Follow these steps.
    • Double-click the HP Color LaserJet 1600 toolbox icon on the Microsoft Windows desktop.
    • Click the Alerts tab.
    • Click the Turn on alerts option button, and then click Apply .
  2. Because pop-up messages are a part of a print job, they appear only when the user is printing. New pop-up messages do not appear for the user if print jobs are in the spooler. To restore the pop-up function, clear the spooler using one of the two methods described in step 4 of the The HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox will not connect. section.
NOTE: If you have users perform the net stop/net start procedure, do not have them end the ZHHP.exe process.
"String not found" appears in the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox pages.
The user's printer firmware version is more recent than the printing-system software version. Have the user download the latest HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software update from the following Web site.
Have the user uninstall the old version of the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing system software. Then have the user install the updated version of the software.
The Page Cannot Be Displayed message appears.
If the message Page Cannot Be Displayed appears when the user tries to open the HP Color LaserJet 1600 Toolbox, follow these steps to solve the problem for Internet Explorer.
  1. On the Internet Explorer menu bar, click Tools , and then click Internet Options .
  2. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings .
  3. Click to select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box, and then click OK .
  4. Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.
