HP Deskjet 6127 and 5850 Printer - Adding a Standard TCP/IP Port

Introduction
This step-by-step document describes how to add a Standard TCP/IP Port for the HP Deskjet 6127 and 5850 printer in Windows 2000 and XP.
Instructions
  1. Click Start , click Settings , and then click Printers .
  2. Right-click the HP Deskjet 6127 or HP Deskjet 5850 printer icon.
  3. Click Properties . The printer Properties window will open (see Figure 1).

  4. Click the Ports tab. The Printer ports window will open (see Figure 2).

  5. Click Add Port .
  6. Click Standard TCP/IP Port (see Figure 3).

  7. Click New Port .
    NOTE: If the port reads "LexmarkTCP/IP Port," or "Cannon TCP/IP Port" then it is possible that one of these printers has captured the port. If this is the case, contact the printer manufacture to assist in removing the printer.
  8. Click Next . The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port window will open.
  9. In the Printer Name or IP Address box (see Figure 4), type in the IP Address of the printer.

  10. Click Next .
  11. Select Standard (see Figure 5).

  12. Click Next , and then click Finish .
  13. Verify there is a check mark (see Figure 6) next to the new port that was added.

  14. Click Apply .
  15. Click the General tab.
  16. Click Print Test Page .
