Drivers included with the printer

Printer drivers access the printer features and allow the computer to communicate with the HP LaserJet 5100 series printer (via a printer language).

The following drivers are included with the printer. The most recent drivers are on the internet.

NOTE:

Depending on the configuration of the Windows computers, the installation program for the printer software automatically checks the computer for the Internet to obtain the latest drivers.

The PCL 5e, PCL6, and PS* drivers are included for the following operating systems:

NOTE:

*The PostScript (PS) driver is not provided for the HP LaserJet 5100LE or the HP LaserJet 5100se printer models.

Additional drivers

The following printer drivers may be obtained by downloading them from the Internet, or by requesting them from an HP-authorized service or support provider.

OS/2 PCL/PCL6 printer driver*
OS/2 PS printer driver*

AutoCAD (Rev.15 compatible Windows printer driver available on the compact disk. Rev.14 printer driver available with the HP LaserJet 5100 printer drivers.

*The OS/2 drivers are also available from IBM, and are packaged with OS/2.

NOTE:

If the desired printer driver is not on the compact disk or is not listed here, check the software application's installation disks or ReadMe files to see if they include support for the printer. If not, contact the software manufacturer or distributor and request a driver for the printer.

Software for Macintosh computers

NOTE:

The following information is not applicable to the HP LaserJet 5100Le and 5100se printer models.

PostScript Printer Description Files (PPDs)

PPDs, in combination with the LaserWriter driver, access the printer features and allow the computer to communicate with the printer. An installation program for the PPDs and other software is provided on the compact disk. Use the LaserWriter printer driver that comes with the printer.

NOTE:

The LaserWriter driver is also available from Apple.

HP LaserJet Utility

HP LaserJet Utility allows control of features that are not available in the driver. Use the HP LaserJet Utility to do the following:

Customize the printer's control panel messages.
Name the printer, assign it to a zone on the network, download files and fonts, and change most of the printer settings.
Set a password for the printer.
From the computer, lock out functions on the printer's control panel to prevent unauthorized access. (See the printer software help.)

HP Web Jetadmin

Download HP Web Jetadmin from the HP Web site. This web-based driver-administration software should be installed on a server. The following systems are supported:

*The software for these systems is not included on the compact disk with the printer, but is available from the Internet.
