HP LaserJet 1300 Series Printer - Understanding LIO

What is it?
LIO is the interface input/output technology used in the LIO connectivity slot on the HP LaserJet 1300, HP Officejet d series, HP Color Inkjet printer cp1160, and HP Color Inkjet Printer cp1700. LIO was the name chosen to differentiate the connectivity slot used on these inkjets from the MIO or EIO connectivity slots used on other HP printers. The following HP Jetdirect network print servers are compatible with LIO connectivity slots:
  • HP Jetdirect 200m internal network print server (J6039B)
  • HP Jetdirect 250m internal network print server (J6042B)
  • HP Jetdirect 280m 802.11 wireless internal network print server (J6044A)
These HP Jetdirect printers servers are sometimes referred to as LIO print servers.
The HP Jetdirect LIO print serves are the latest addition to HP's market-leading Jetdirect family of networking products. These products utilize 10/100Base-Tx Ethernet networking technology and come with Status and Link-speed LEDs, as well as a Test/Reset button.
How does it work?
The LIO modules were designed to be easy to install and use for small business as well as corporate customers. The LIO modules have a new enclosed modular design that quickly and easily plugs in to the printer's LIO connectivity slot (also called an LIO port) without opening the printer. The print servers are automatically secured in the LIO slot with side latches when the card is plugged in, the print servers can be unplugged by pressing the side release buttons. The LIO modules are hot-swappable (power can be applied to the printer while the LIO module is being inserted or removed from the LIO slot).
The LIO modules are considered to be internal modules since they interface with the printers via the LIO backplane that is at the end of the LIO connectivity slot, internal to the printer. Internal modules do not require external cables to connect to the printer or external power supplies like an external module such as the HP Jetdirect 175X external print server.
The HP Jetdirect LIO print servers come with a Jetdirect installation CD-ROM with an Install Network Printer Wizard software. The printers with LIO slots include a CD-ROM that comes with network installation software that includes the printer driver file. If the printer CD-ROM is used to do a network installation, the printer driver is automatically installed and used to setup the network printer.
What are the benefits?
Affordability
Maximize investments by cost-effectively sharing HP printers with LIO connectivity slots with multiple users over a network.
Flexibility
  • Use the HP Jetdirect print servers to place printers with LIO slots anywhere in the office, providing fast printing, convenient sharing, and simple management.
  • Utilize the HP Jetdirect 200m with an Apple or Microsoft 10/100Base-Tx network, however, choose the HP Jetdirect 250m or HP Jetdirect 280m if the option of upgrading firmware or utilizing additional network operating systems such as HP-UX, Novell, UNIX, LINUX, Solaris, IBM OS/2 Warp, or LANtastic are required.
NOTE: Check the printer's list of supported operating systems to verify compatibility with the print server.
  • Utilize the HP Jetdirect 280m wireless print server to connect the printer without the cost and hassle of installing network cables.
Simplicity
Minimize installation problems with the modular design and intuitive installation software provides simple setup and configuration of the HP network printer.
