Introduction
This document covers information on temporarily disabling the startup group items in Microsoft® Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.
Disabling the startup group is a basic troubleshooting step that can be used to correct multiple issues including issues due to a lack of available free random access memory (RAM), as well issues with scanning to third party programs using the Twain interface.
All of the following symptoms may be fixed by disabling the startup group items:
  • Communication issues
  • Slow scanning speeds
  • Installation problems
  • Problems using HP scanning software
  • Problems using TWAIN
