HP worked closely with Microsoft to prepare for the release of Windows XP and to optimize printing capability for HP LaserJet series printers. The drivers that ship with the Windows XP operating system represent this joint effort between Microsoft and HP for providing enhanced printing support through the inbox PostScript®) and PCL drivers.
Specifically, these inbox drivers use the Microsoft unidriver and PostScript driver architectures with HP additions for enhanced functionality. When these drivers are included on the operating system CD, they can be installed using the Add Printer Wizard
feature of the operating system or through Plug and Play (where applicable).
Although HP worked to provide comparable functionality with the Windows XP drivers, some features may not be available via the inbox driver. HP LaserJet 4 series, 5 series, 6 series and 8500 printers may have drivers with added functionality available from the product specific download pages on
www.hp.com
.
Updated HP LaserJet 8500 drivers will also be available from Microsoft's Windows update.

It is important to understand that HP does not offer Windows XP drivers for every model. If there is not a Windows XP HP driver available on the web after searching from the

then the only option is to install a Microsoft driver that shipped "in-box" with the Windows XP operating system.

NOTE:
|
These drivers do not support QuickSet functionality. Driver functionality will vary from product to product and will depend on the original feature set of the printer. |
