HP LaserJet 5SI, and 5SI MX series printer descriptions
The HP LaserJet 5Si, and 5Si MX series printers are high-volume, 600 dots per inch (dpi), and 24 ppm machines designed to handle the printing needs of large networks and departments. Each features advanced paper handling capacity: up to 1,100 sheets standard input and up to 3,100 sheets with optional accessories. An optional Multi-Bin Mailbox increases output capacity from the standard 600 sheets to 2,600 sheets. Each printer handles a variety of media sizes including Letter, Legal, A4, Executive, JIS B4, JIS B5, 11 x 17, A3 and multiple envelope sizes. The HP LaserJet 5Si series printer comes with 45 fonts, 35 Intellifont and 10 TrueType™. The HP LaserJet 5Si MX series printer comes with 80 fonts (35 Adobe Type 1, 35 Intellifont, and 10 TrueType).
The HP LaserJet 5Si MX series printer features additional memory and genuine Adobe PostScript Level 2 language as well as an HP Jetdirect print server card for Ethernet (10Base2 and 10Base-T) and LocalTalk (DIN-8) interfaces. All interfaces on both printers are bidirectional and simultaneously active, switching automatically to the port that is receiving data.
Enhanced HP Jetadmin printer management software is standard with both printers. HP Jetadmin provides remote printer control and status features for all HP Jetdirect and Novell NetWare file server connected printers (including installation, configuration, and diagnostics). The printer provides industry standard MIB compliance for compatibility within network environments. The new HP Jetadmin features provide print job tracking and monitoring with real-time status updates, alerts, and job cancels. A versatile new Windows interface provides document customization such as watermarks, booklet printing, and printing of multiple pages on one sheet of paper.

Use an IEEE-1284 compliant parallel cable with the HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX series printers if using the parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 5Si series printer has one high-speed bidirectional IEEE 1284 ECP compliant parallel port (large B-type connector) and two empty slots for Modular I/0 and network cards (no serial port is included with the HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX series printers).
The HP LaserJet 5Si MX series printer comes standard with one high-speed bidirectional IEEE 1284 ECP compliant parallel port (large B-type connector) and one HP Jetdirect (J2552 - discontinued) Multi-protocol Network Card with LocalTalk, DIN-8, and Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 10Base-T BNC connectors. The HP LaserJet 5Si MX series printer also has one empty MIO expansion slot for an additional HP Jetdirect card or a third-party card.

Memory information
The HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX series printers have four SIMM slots for installing memory and printer personalities (such as PostScript). Memory can be installed in increments of 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 MB.
The HP LaserJet 5Si series printer comes standard with 4 MB of memory. Four SIMM slots are available for a maximum of 132 MB of memory.
The HP LaserJet 5Si MX series printer comes standard with 12 MB of memory. Two additional SIMM slots are available for a maximum of 76 MB of memory an 8 MB SIMM and the Adobe PostScript SIMM are already using (the other two SIMM slots. However, the 8 MB SIMM can be removed and another 32 MB SIMM installed for a maximum of 100 MB).

Maintenance information
