Questions and answers
Q1:
I was using Jetadmin for Windows 95/98 to manage devices and I don't see that Web Jetadmin runs on Windows 95/98. Do I need a replacement product for managing many devices on Windows 9x?
A1:
While Web Jetadmin does not support Windows 9x as an operating system on which it can be installed, a typical Web browser can be used on any Windows 9x machine to browse an installed version of Web Jetadmin on another supported machine to remotely manage devices.
Q2:
Why isn't Jetadmin available for download any longer?
A2:
The announcement for discontinuing Jetadmin was made in February 2000, two years before the planned obsolescence date of February 2002. Jetadmin was modified one last time in April 2000, to support Microsoft Windows 2000. Although all development had ceased for this last release of Jetadmin, version 3.42, the software remained available for download until the recent obsolescence date passed. Since no development has occurred in Jetadmin during this two-year period, many newer printers have been introduced that were not tested and that are not supported in Jetadmin. Also, Novell has released several new clients during this time, all of which have not been tested in Jetadmin 3.42. Without adequate printer and/or Novell client support, it was decided to remove Jetadmin for download.
Q3:
I downloaded Jetadmin before it was removed from the Web. However, it does not support most of my newer printers what should I do?
A3:
All development of Jetadmin had ceased after the announcement of discontinuance and the final release, of version 3.42 in April 2000. Therefore, any printers that have been introduced since that time were not tested and they are not supported in Jetadmin 3.42. Significant development efforts have been made for management of all newer printers in the HP Web Jetadmin software.
Q4:
I used Jetadmin for UNIX (HP-UX, Solaris) to create print queues. However, Web Jetadmin does not support HP-UX or Solaris. What do I use?
A4:
Although Web Jetadmin does not support HP-UX or Solaris as an installation platform, optional plug-ins can be downloaded and added to Web Jetadmin to give it the ability to create print queues on machines in these environments.
