HP Deskjet Printers - Installing the Most Current Printer Driver on a Microsoft(R) Windows XP Computer


This information applies to Microsoft(R) Windows XP and all HP Deskjet printers.
Introduction
The instructions in this document are tailored to offer the best drivers available for your printer. Your printer is linked to the installation method that offers a driver with the most features available for your printer in the Windows XP operating system. This document describes the following methods of installing the driver:
  • Installing the drivers that are preinstalled on the Windows XP operating system
  • Downloading and installing a driver from the HP Web site
Set up the printer before installing the driver
Before installing the printer driver, set up (sometimes called hook up ) the printer by removing the packing tape, connecting to a power supply, and installing the ink cartridges.
NOTE: Do not connect the USB or parallel printer cable until instructed to do so.
