Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide information on Microsoft service packs, security bulletins and Hewlett Packard Service Release along with the effects and required actions on HP ProLiant Storage Server and HP StorageWorks NAS products.
This document was last updated: 21-Jan-2008
NOTE: This document and patch information pertains only to:
  • StorageWorks NAS 500s, 1200s, 1500s, 2000s, 4000s, 9000s
  • o HP ProLiant Storage Server ML110, ML110 G2, ML310 G3, ML310 G4, ML350 G4, ML350 G4p, ML350 G5, ML370 G4, DL100, DL100 G2, DL320s, DL380 G4, DL380 G5, DL580 G2, DL 585, DL585 G2
It is recommended to:
  1. Installing Service Packs to update systems to the most current code base.
  2. Adopting security patches on a case-by-case, "as-needed" basis. It is recommended to read all related documentation before applying updates. See NAS Product Model Service Pack Support Matrix and Notes below for supported service packs and the MS Security Patch table for individual patch information.
Installation instructions
If internet access is available directly from the StorageWorks NAS server:
  1. Download or copy the service pack or security patch to a temporary folder on the StorageWorks NAS.
  2. Execute the service pack or security patch.
If internet access is not available directly from the StorageWorks NAS server:
  1. Download the service pack or security patch to a client with access to the internet.
  2. From the client, copy the service pack or security patch to a temporary folder on the StorageWorks NAS or to a floppy diskette or CD on the client
  3. If service pack or security patch copied to a temporary folder:
    1. 3. Execute the service pack or security patch.
    If service pack or security patch copied to a floppy diskette or CD:
    1. Insert the floppy diskette or CD into the appropriate drive or into the external USB device attached to the StorageWorks NAS.
    2. Using Terminal Service or after attaching a keyboard, monitor and mouse to the StorageWorks NAS, copy the service pack or security patch to a temporary folder on the StorageWorks NAS.
    3. Execute the service pack or security patch.

Prior to applying any patch or service pack the following procedure should be followed:
  1. Always perform a reliable backup.
  2. Always consult the pertinent documentation corresponding to the storage array in use.
  3. In cluster environments, move all cluster resources to the non-patching node.
  4. Apply the appropriate patches
  5. Restart the NAS device.
