HP Color LaserJet 4600 and 4650 Series Printers - Alphabetical Printer Messages

Introduction
Most control panel messages are status messages that display information about the printer's current operation. In addition, the printer displays warning messages, error messages, and critical error messages. This document contains a brief description of each message category and a table that lists and describes each control panel message.
  • Status messages
Status messages reflect the current state of the printer. They offer information about normal printer operation and no interaction is required to clear them. They change as the state of the printer changes. Whenever the printer is ready, not busy, and has no pending warning messages, the status message READY is displayed if the printer is online.
  • Warning messages
Warning messages display information about data and print errors. These messages typically alternate with the READY or STATUS messages and remain displayed until the (SELECT button) is pressed. If CLEARABLE WARNING is set to JOB in the printer’s Configuration menu, these messages are cleared by the next print job.
  • Error messages
Error messages communicate that some action must be performed, such as adding paper or clearing a paper jam. Some error messages are auto-continuable; if AUTO CONTINUE=ON the printer will continue normal operation after displaying an auto-continuable error message for 10 seconds.
NOTE: Any button pressed during the 10-second display of an auto-continuable error message will override the auto-continue feature and the function of the button pressed will take precedence. For example, pressing the CANCEL JOB button will cancel the job.
  • Critical error messages
Critical error messages display warnings about device failures. Turning the printer off and then on can clear some of these messages. These messages are not affected by the AUTO CONTINUE setting. If a critical error persists, service is required.
