HP ProBook 4520s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard disk drive
 Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 4520s Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your
unit contains a part that is labeled with the Modified Spare number, the
Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part.
If your unit contains a part that is labeled with the Original Spare number,
please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either
the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not
affect performance or functionality of the unit. |

Remove the battery, switch cover, and keyboard.
Remove the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the palm rest to the base enclosure.
Slide the palm rest toward the right of the notebook.
Flip the palm rest toward the center of the notebook and rest it face down on the base enclosure.
Remove the two 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws from the left side of the hard disk drive bracket.
Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw on the right side of the hard disk drive bracket.
Use the black mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive away from the hard disk drive connector on the system board.
Remove the hard disk drive from the hard disk drive bay.
Place the hard disk drive in an electrostatic dissipative bag.
Hard disk drive replacement
Remove the hard disk drive from the electrostatic dissipative bag.
Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay and align it with the hard disk drive connector on the system board.
Use the black mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive securely onto the hard disk drive connector.
Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw on the right side of the hard disk drive bracket.
Replace the two 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws on the left side of the hard disk drive bracket.
Flip the palm rest toward the front edge of the notebook and set it into position on the base enclosure.
While pressing down, slide the palm rest toward the left of the notebook until it is secure and flush with the left edge of the notebook.
Replace the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the palm rest to the base enclosure.
Replace the battery, switch cover, and keyboard.
