HP EliteBook 2740p Tablet PC - Removing and Replacing the Keyboard
 Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the keyboard for the HP EliteBook 2740p Tablet PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
Small, Phillips-head (P0 and P1) screwdrivers
Small Torx T8 screwdriver

The replacement part number will vary depending on the keyboard that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

China, etc.) restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical
equipment.
The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your
unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the
Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part.
If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Original Spare number,
please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either
the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not
affect performance or functionality of the unit. |

On the bottom of the notebook, loosen the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secure the accessory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
Lift the accessory cover and remove it.
Remove the two rubber screw covers near the top right corner of the base enclosure.
Remove the six 8 mm T8 Torx screws that secure the keyboard to the base enclosure.
Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel.
Use a non-metallic, flat-bladed tool to lift the top edge of the keyboard and then slide the keyboard toward the rear of the notebook.
Gently lift the locking bar on the pointing stick ZIF connector and remove the ribbon cable.

Flip the keyboard toward the left side of the notebook and rest it face down.
Gently lift the locking bar on the keyboard ZIF connector and remove the ribbon cable.

Remove the keyboard.
Keyboard replacement
Place the keyboard face down on the left side of the base enclosure so that you have access to the keyboard ribbon cable and connector.
Insert the keyboard ribbon cable into the keyboard ZIF connector on the system board.

Push the locking bar down to secure the keyboard ribbon cable in the keyboard ZIF connector.
Flip the keyboard toward the center of the notebook and insert the pointing stick ribbon cable into the pointing stick ZIF connector on the system board.

Push the locking bar down to secure the pointing stick ribbon cable in the pointing stick ZIF connector.
Toe the tabs on the bottom edge of the keyboard into the top cover and press the keyboard flat.
Close the display panel and turn the notebook upside down.
Replace the six 8 mm T8 Torx screws that secure the keyboard to the base enclosure.
Replace the two rubber screw covers near the top right corner of the base enclosure.
Toe the accessory cover into the base enclosure and lower it into position.
Tighten the three captive P1 Phillips-head screws identified with a memory and storage drive icon that secures the accessory cover to the bottom of the notebook.
