HP Color LaserJet 2605dn and 2605dtn Printers - Enabling Print on Both Sides Feature (also known as Duplex)

Issue Description
How do I enable Print on Both Sides also known a duplexing when printing documents from Microsoft Windows operating systems?
NOTE: The duplex option will need to be enabled after an upgrade to Windows 7. Open the Printers folder, right-click the driver and select Printing Preferences from the drop-down menu. Click the Finishing tab and then select the check box next to Print on both sides .
Solution
Use the following steps to Print on Both Sides (duplex) of the paper.
  1. Open the document to be printed.
  2. Click File and then Print from the menu.
  3. In the print dialog click the Properties or Preferences button. (Some applications use a Properties button; others use a Preferences button.)
  4. Click the Finishing tab.
  5. Select Print on Both Sides under the Document Options section.
NOTE: If Print on Both Sides (Manually) is the only option, then the paper type or paper size setting is set to a type or size that is not supported by the duplexing unit (see the Background Information section below).
  6. Click OK to close the document Properties or Preferences dialog.
  7. Click OK to send the print job to the printer.
NOTE: The Print on Both Sides setting will remain in effect until the application is closed.
Print on Both Sides (duplex) as default setting for all print jobs
If you want to set Print on Both Sides (duplex) as the default setting for all print jobs (even single page jobs) use the following steps.
  1. Click Start , Printers or Printers and Faxes from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
  2. Right-click the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn_2605dtn and select Printing Preferences (Properties in Microsoft Windows 2000).
  3. Click the Finishing tab.
  4. Select Print on Both Sides under the Document Options section.
  5. Click OK to save the setting and close the Printing Preferences window.
  6. Close the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
NOTE: In this scenario, all print jobs, even single print jobs, will be treated as Print on Both Sizes (automatic duplexing) for media that is supported by the duplexing unit. For media that is not supported by the duplexing unit, the job will be treated as Print on Both Sides (Manually) (manual duplex).
Background Information
The Print on Both Sides option controls the automatic duplexing function of the printer and is available only on the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn and the HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn printers, which have a duplexing unit installed. The Print on Both Sides (Manually) option controls the manual duplexing function of the HP Color LaserJet 2605 printer, and allows manual duplexing on the other HP Color LaserJet 2605dn and 2605dtn printers for media types that are not supported when using the automatic duplexing unit, such as cardstock and thick media.
Paper types and sizes supported by automatic duplexing. All other paper types and sizes will revert to the Print on Both Sides (Manually) setting.
