HP LaserJet 1200 Series Printer - Upgrading from the 1200 to the 1220 (Adding the Copier/Scanner)

Review package contents
Make sure all parts of the copier/scanner are included in the package (see Figure 1).

Locate parts
Locate the parts of the copier/scanner (see Figure 2).

Unplug the printer
Turn off the printer’s power switch (220-volt models only) and unplug the printer (see Figure 3).

Assembly
Open the toner door
Pull the sides of the door forward until the door locks in its open position (see Figure 4).

Do not close the door until the left side panel has been reattached. |
Remove the left side panel
Grasp the left side panel using the finger hole (see Figure 5).
Pull out and remove the panel (see Figure 5).

Remove the I/O cable
Remove either the parallel or USG input/output cable (see Figure 6).

Remove the scanner access cover
Remove the scanner access cover from the left side panel (see Figure 7). Save the scanner access cover in case the scanner is removed.

Install the copier/scanner
Place the copier/scanner unit on top of the printer. Firmly slide the copier/scanner toward the rear until it snaps into place (see Figure 8).

Attach the copier/scanner cable
Attach the cable to the edge of the I/O board (see Figure 9). Make sure that the connection is secure.

If the HP LaserJet 1220 software will be installed, do not reattach the parallel or USB cable. |
Reattach the left side panel
Insert the left side panel tabs behind the edge of the front panel.
Swing the panel shut while pressing the top of the panel under the scanner.

Close the toner door
Close the toner door. When the door is closed, the print cartridge engages.

Install copier/scanner trays

1 - Insert the copier/scanner media output bin into the copier/scanner unit
2 - Insert the copier/scanner media input tray above the output bin
Attach the power cord
Connect the power cord to the printer and an AC outlet (see Figure 13). For 220-volt models, turn on the power switch.

Copier test
To test the copier, place a document in the copier/scanner input tray and press the COPY button (see Figure 14). The document should feed into the copier/scanner. A copy should appear in the printer’s output bin.

Troubleshooting
If the copier test fails, use the following steps:
Check the configuration report to verify that the copier/scanner is recognized. (The configuration report will say “1220�? at the top of the page if the copier/scanner is recognized.)
If it is recognized, retry the copier test.
If the copier/scanner was not recognized, verify that the copier/scanner cable is firmly connected.
Unplug the printer, plug the printer back in, and retry the test.
If there are still errors, call HP Customer Support.
Software installation (PC)
Use the following steps to install the copier/scanner hardware for Windows:

Select Install
from the autorun screen.

NOTE:

If autorun does not occur, select Start
, select Run
, and type x:\setup (where x
is the letter of the CD-ROM drive). |
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Click Finish
to complete the installation.
After the installation is complete, connect the I/O cable to the computer
Reboot the computer.
Software installation (Macintosh - USB)
Use the following steps to install the copier/scanner hardware for Macintosh:
Connect the I/O cable to the computer.
Insert CD No. 2 (for Macintosh) into the computer’s CD-ROM drive.
Select a language.
Click Install
and follow the screen instructions.
When the installation is complete, restart the computer.
Click Next
when the setup assistant starts.
Under Select Device
, choose USB
and select HP LaserJet 1220
.
Click Next
.
Follow the screen instructions.
Click Go Ahead
.
Scanner test
To test the scanner, use the following steps:
Place a document in the copier/scanner input tray and press the Scan
button (see Figure 15).

The HP LaserJet Director appears on the screen.
Click Scan
.
Select the printer from the Destination
field.
Click OK
.
The document should feed into the copier/scanner. The copy should appear in the printer output bin.
