HP Scanjet 7650 Scanner - How to do a Clean Uninstall
ISSUE:
How to complete a clean manual uninstall.
SOLUTION:
: - Run the Uninstaller application
- Open the Macintosh hard drive (labeled as Macintosh HD by default).
- Open Applications
folder.
- Open Hewlett-Packard
folder.
- Double-click Uninstaller
application. (insert password when asked)
- Select Uninstall All Products
and click Next
, then click Uninstall
.
- Close the hard drive and disconnect the scanner’s USB cable and Power Supply.
- Removing Login Items:
(running the uninstaller does not remove the Scanjet Manager, and this must be removed)
- Click Apple
and Open System Preferences.
- Open Accounts
.
- Click User Name
.
- Click Startup Items
Tab.
- Highlight the HP Scanjet Manager and click the minus “-“ sign to remove it.
- Close System Preferences
window.
- Removing Preferences from the User Profile:
- Open the Macintosh hard drive (labeled Macintosh HD by default).
- Open the Users
folder.
- Select your login name (labeled usually as a house icon).
- Open the Library
folder.
- Open Preferences
folder.
- Drag the following items to the Trash
:
- com.hp.photo.director.plist
- com.hp.photo.gallery.plist
- com.hp.scanjet.plist
- com.irislink.mac,ReadIris.plist
- ReadIris Prefs folder
- Hp PSP.rsrc
- HP PS Pro Preferences
- HP ScanJet Destinations
- HP Email Prefs
- HP Copy Prefs

Some of the above preferences may not be found, this won’t affect the new installation. |
- Removing Extensions:
- Open System
folder.
- Open Library
folder.
- Open Extensions
folder.
- Locate and drag to the Trash the hpPlugInInit.kext.
file (put in password if asked).

NOTE:

If this extension is not found move on with this document, the new install will not be
affected.
|
- Remove any Alias created on the dock for the HP ScanJet by dragging to the Trash.
Restarting the computer first will stop the HP Scanjet Manager from running while in the trash
- Restart the Macintosh and empty the Trash.
SUMMARY:
Ensures all files have been removed in the event the HP Uninstaller does not remove them
completely.
