HP Photo Scanner 1000 - Installing the Scanner Without the Software
 Introduction
Installing the software that comes with the HP Photoscanner 1000 is not necessary to establish communication, scan images, or view scanned images while using the scanner as a mass storage device.
Since the scanner is powered by the USB hub it is plugged into, it cannot be plugged into a non-powered hub or a pass-through device. Use the USB ports on the computer or a powered USB hub. Powered USB Hubs have a power cord that plugs into a wall outlet or surge protector.
Connecting and using the scanner without the software installed
Connect the scanner to the USB port on the computer system or into a powered USB hub while at the Desktop with no other applications running. A Building driver information database window will appear followed by a New Hardware Found window.
The scanner will be detected as a mass storage device and installed automatically. Once the Add New Hardware screens disappear it is possible to scan an image.
Place a photo on the scanner glass with the top of the photo on the left side of the scanner.
Close the lid and then press the SILVER button on the side of the scanner to initiate a scan.
Double-click the My Computer
icon.
Double-click the drive letter that represents the scanner, for example E:.
Double-click the image and it will be opened in the computer system’s default image viewer.
