HP Deskjet, Officejet, Officejet Pro, and Photosmart Printers - Unable To Print from Intuit Quicken in Windows 7 (64-bit Edition)
Issue
The print job stalls and does not complete when you try to print from Intuit Quicken on a computer running Windows 7 64-bit edition.
Solution: Install an alternative driver
You can install an alternate driver for your product to print in Quicken.

Option one: Install the Photosmart C4600 series driver
Follow these steps to install an alternate driver for your product.
Step one: Determine your current printer port
Find the port your product uses.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( 
), and then click Devices and printers
. The Devices and printers
folder opens.
Right-click the icon for your product, and then click Printer properties
. The printer Properties
window opens.
Click the Ports
tab.
Locate the port that has a check mark in the Port
column. This is the port that your product uses to print.

Write the port name as it appears in the Port

Click Cancel
to close the Properties
window.
Step two: Install the Photosmart C4600 printer driver from Windows 7
A driver for the Photosmart C4600 printer comes installed on your Windows 7 operating system. Use the following instructions to install the driver.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( 
), and then click Devices and printers
. The Devices and printers
folder opens.
Click Add a printer
, and then select Add a local printer
.
In the Add Printer window, click Use an existing port
, select the port name you recorded from the drop-down list, and then click Next
.
From the Manufacturer
list, select HP
, select HP Photosmart C4600 series
from the Printer
list, and then click Next
.
In the Printer name
text box, type Quicken - HP Photosmart C4600
, and then click Next
.
Clear the Set as the default printer
box, and then click Finish.
Step three: Set up the Photosmart C4600 alternate driver to print to your product
Follow these steps to establish a connection between the alternate driver and your product.
In the Printers window, right-click Quicken - HP Photosmart C4600
, and then click Printer Properties
.
Click the Advanced
tab, and then click Print directly to the printer.
Click OK
to close the Properties
window.
Step four: Print from Quicken
Follow these steps to print from Quicken.
Open the file you want to print in Quicken.
From the File
menu, click Printer setup
, and then click Quicken - HP Photosmart C4600
.
Click Print
to print your file.

This alternate driver will appear in other programs that you print from. Only select this product when printing from Quicken. |
Option two: Install the Deskjet D2400 series driver
Follow these steps to download and install an alternate driver for your product.
Step one: Determine your current printer port
Find the port your product uses.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( 
), and then click Devices and printers
. The Devices and printers
folder opens.
Right-click the icon for your product, and then click Printer properties
. The printer Properties
window opens.
Click the Ports
tab.
Locate the port that has a check mark in the Port
column. This is the port that your product uses to print.

Click Cancel
to close the Properties
window.
Step two: Download the Deskjet D2400 driver for Windows 7 64-bit edition
Download the driver for the Deskjet D2400 from hp.com.

This alternate driver is for the Vista operating system, but will install correctly with the instructions provided below. |
Click Download
, and a new window displays. Click Save File
, browse to your desktop, click Save
, and then wait for the software to download.
Step three: Locate the installation files
Start the installation process and locate the installation files.
Double-click the driver you just downloaded. The file extracts and the Install
screen displays.
Click the Cancel
button to cancel the installation.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( 
), type %temp%
in the Search programs and files
box, and then press Enter
.
Find folders that begins with 7z. Look for the folder that shows today's date in the Date modified
column, and then write down the name of this folder.

NOTE:

Do not close Temp window at this point. You will need to come back to this folder later in these instructions. |
Step four: Install the Deskjet D2400 printer driver
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( 
), and then click Devices and printers
. The Devices and printers
folder opens.
Click Add a printer
, and then select Add a local printer
.
In the Add Printer window, click Use an existing port
, select the port name you recorded from the drop-down list, and then click Next
.
Click Have Disk
, and then click Browse
. A new window displays.
On the Windows taskbar, click the yellow folder icon to display the Temp
folder.
Right-click
the address bar on the Temp
folder and click Copy address as text
.

On the Windows taskbar, click the blue control panel icon to display the Install from Disk
window.
In the File name
box, right-click
, select Paste
, and then click Open
.
- Double-click the Temp file name you recorded earlier to open the folder. Select the file named cpcdcsls
, and then click Open
.
From the Printers list
, select HP Deskjet D2400 series
, and then click Next
.
In the Printer name
text box, type Quicken - HP Deskjet D2400
, and then click Next
.
Clear the Set as the default printer
box, and then click Finish.
Step five: Set up the Deskjet D2400 alternate driver to print to your product
Follow these steps to establish a connection between the alternate driver and your product.
In the Printers window, right-click Quicken - HP Deskjet D2400
, and then click Printer Properties
.
Click the Advanced
tab, and then click Print directly to the printer.
Click OK
to close the Properties
window.
Step six: Print from Quicken
Follow these steps to print from Quicken.
Open the file you want to print in Quicken.
From the File
menu, click Printer setup
, and then click Quicken - HP Deskjet D2400
.
Click Print
to print your file.
