HP Photosmart 230, 7350, and 7550 Printers - Display Screen Error Messages


Introduction
This document contains information on paper errors, print cartridge errors, memory card errors, computer printing errors, and miscellaneous errors.
Paper errors
Message Issue Solution
Media scan failed. Press OK to retry or Cancel the job,

The auto-paper detect scanner failed. Press OK. Try turning off auto-paper detect (Preferences, Auto Paper Detect) and re-sending the print job. Select the appropriate paper type on the Quality tab of the printer Properties dialog box.
Out of paper. Load paper then press OK. The In tray is empty. Load paper in the In tray, then press OK to re-send the print job.
Paper is too small. Choose a larger paper size. Press OK. The paper in the In tray is too small for the current job. Load a larger paper size or choose a smaller print size.
Paper jam. Clear jam then press OK. The paper became stuck in the printer during a print job. Turn the printer off.

Paper size mismatch. Load correct paper size. Press OK or Cancel the job. The paper size changed in the middle of a print job. Load the correct paper size for the job.
Photo tray is engaged. Disengage it and press OK or Cancel the job. The photo tray is engaged, but the current print job is set to print on paper larger than 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) photo paper. Move the photo tray slider toward outward until it stops. This disengages the photo tray.
Unsupported media size. Job was cancelled. Press OK. The In tray contains a paper size that the printer does not support. Load paper that is the correct size.
Wrong paper size. Cropping may occur. Press OK to continue or Cancel the job. The size of the paper in the In tray does not match the size specified for the current print job. If the paper is smaller than the size you specified, the printer may crop the edges of the photo. Load the correct paper size for the job.
Print cartridge errors
Message Issue Solution
All cartridges are low on ink. They may need replacing soon. One or more of your print cartridges is low on ink. Try the following:

All print cartridges are missing. Please install and snap cartridges in completely. The print cartridges are not installed.

Remove the cartridges and reinstall them using the instructions in the Basics Guide or the Setup Guide .
Cartridges are not compatible. Use appropriate HP cartridges. Or remove them to print using Reserve Mode. You have inserted one or more print cartridges that do not work with the HP Photosmart 7550 printer. Try the following:

Print cartridge cradle is stuck. Clear jam then press OK.

The cradle holding the print cartridges is jammed and cannot print properly. Open the side door of the printer.

Print cartridges are not installed correctly. Please remove and reinsert them. One or more of your print cartridges is not installed properly. Remove the cartridges and reinstall them using the instructions in the Basics Guide or the Setup Guide .
Print cartridges failed. Please replace all cartridges. One or more of the print cartridges failed.

Try the following:

Memory card errors
Message Issue Solution
Camera selection (DPOF) file has error. The DPOF file that contains instructions for printing and saving photos contains errors. The printer cannot process the print job. Put the memory card in the camera and re-select the photos. Insert the card in the printer and try again.

Cannot display all photos. Only 2000 photos can be displayed. The memory card contains more than 2000 photos. The HP Photosmart 7550 printer can only read up to 2000 photos at once. Save the photos to a computer and access them from there.
Cannot print photos. One or more of the photos in the print job contains errors. Save the photos to the computer and print them from there.
Cannot display this photo. The printer cannot display the current photo.

Save the photo to a computer and view it from there.
Cannot print photos. Some of the photos in this print job have errors. They may be corrupt, missing, or be of an unsupported file type. If there are more than ten errors, the printer cancels the job. Save the files to a computer and print them from there.
Card access error.

The printer cannot read the data on the memory card. It cannot complete any current print or save jobs.

Save the files to a computer and access them from there.

Card is locked. Cannot access card. The memory card is locked, so the printer cannot read it. Remove the memory card, unlock it, and reinsert it. For more information on unlocking a memory card, consult the documentation that came with the camera.
Card is not fully inserted. Push card in a little more. The printer can detect the memory card but cannot read it. Push the memory card completely into the card slot.
Card is password-protected. Cannot access card. The printer cannot read the data on the memory card because the card has been protected with a password. Remove the card.

Card may be damaged.

The printer was not able to read the memory card after beginning the print job. Save the files to a computer and access them from there.

Card may be damaged.

The memory card may be damaged. The printer cannot read the card. Save the files to a computer and access them from there.

Card was removed. Job was cancelled. Press OK.

The memory card was removed in the middle of a print job, which cancelled the job. Reinsert the memory card and try again.

Memory card in backwards. The black side should face up.

The memory card is in backwards and the printer cannot read it. Reorient and reinsert the card so the black side or the label faces up.
No other photos have been selected. An attempt to navigate to another selected photo was made, but the current photo is the only one selected. Navigate one photo at a time using the Left or Right arrow.
No photos have been selected. An attempt to navigate to another selected photo was made, but no photos are selected. Navigate one photo at a time using the Left or Right arrow.
Photo is corrupted.

The printer is trying to print, but it cannot read one or more of the photos on the memory card. Save the photos to the computer using the digital camera rather than the memory card.

Photo is missing.

One or more photos in the print job is missing. This can occur if files from the computer were deleted after setting up the print job. Save the photos to the computer using the digital camera rather than the memory card.

Photo type is not supported. The print job includes an unsupported photo type such as PSD. Save the photos to the computer. Print the files from there using an application that supports that type of file.
Some camera selected photos are not on card. Check the DPOF file. Press OK. The printer cannot find one or more of the photos you selected on the camera. The HP Photosmart 7550 printer prints the photos that are on the card and ignores those that are missing.

Unsupported card. Please use only supported types. The memory card in the printer does not belong to one of the seven supported types. Remove the unsupported memory card, and replace it with a supported memory card format.
Use only one card at a time. Please remove a memory card. More than one memory card is in the printer. The HP Photosmart 7550 printer can only access one memory card at a time. Remove memory cards until only one is left.
Computer printing errors
Message Problem Solution
Computer is not connected. To save photos, connect printer to computer. Press OK.

The printer cannot communicate properly with the computer. A driver may not be working or a cable may be loose. Ensure that the USB cable is securely attached to the computer and to the USB port on the back of the printer.

Data was not received. Check computer connection. Press OK to continue. The printer did not receive the data that the computer sent to it. Ensure that the USB cable is securely attached to the computer and to the USB port on the back of the printer.

E-mail error. Unable to send. The printer is unable to send a photo to e-mail. Either the card is full or the photo is corrupt. Save the file to the computer and e-mail it from there.
Job was cancelled. The print job was cancelled from the printer control panel or from the computer. Re-send the job.
No response from computer. The printer could not establish a connection with the computer to start an e-mail session. Ensure that the USB cable is securely attached to the computer and to the USB port on the back of the printer.

Printer memory is full. Document cannot be printed. Press OK.

The print job is too large for the printer memory. Print the job from the computer and select Low Memory Mode from the printer driver.
Printer memory. Job was cancelled. Press OK. The printer encountered a problem when saving files to the computer. Save to the computer using a card reader. If the issue persists, turn the printer off then on, then try saving again.
Miscellaneous errors
Message Problem Solution
ERROR 0x99999999. Turn printer OFF then ON. The printer experienced a fatal error. Turn the printer off. Wait a moment, then turn it back on. Re-send the job.
Print cartridge door is open. The side door covering the print cartridge area is open. Close the side door and continue.
Rear door/module is missing. Install it to continue. Neither the rear panel nor the duplexer is attached to the printer. Insert either the rear panel or the duplexer.
