Version: 1

CUSTOMER ADVISORY: Configuring the cache usage on Windows 2008 R2 system
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2011-12-14

Last Updated: 2011-12-14

DESCRIPTION

During IDB backup on Windows 2008 R2 cell manager, the task manager displays close to 100% memory consumption even though the memory consumption by the Raima Database Service (RDS) process is within the normal limits. The Windows cache manager does not release the memory until the RDS service is restarted leading to slow response time from the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and slow IDB backups.

SCOPE

This advisory provides the details of the dynamic cache service which allows the user to configure the cache usage on Windows 2008 R2 system.

Affected Products
  • HP Data Protector v6.11 on Windows 2008 R2 system
  • HP Data Protector v6.2 on Windows 2008 R2 system
RESOLUTION

In case of Windows 7 and Windows server 2008 R2, the system cache is automated. However, some application may still cause flooding onto file system cache by overdoing cached read or write IO which would result in high file system cache. To resolve this issue, it is recommended to contact Microsoft for the installation of Dynamic Cache service.
