Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 8.0 - Unable to Use Explorer View on a SharePoint Site in IE 8.0

Issue
Clients (Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0) are unable to open the Document Library with Explorer View. While accessing https sites, the following error occurs:
Please wait while Explorer View is loaded. If Explorer View does not appear, your browser may not support it.
Solution
Hotfix 972584 is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 2003 with Internet Explorer 8.
After you installed this Hotfix on the computer, add a registry value to enable the Hotfix. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Start , click Run , type regedit , and then press Enter .
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click Key .
  4. Type the following name, and then press Enter :
    FEATURE_WEBFOLDER_DIRECTNAVIGATE_KB972584
  5. Right-click FEATURE_WEBFOLDER_DIRECTNAVIGATE_KB972584 , point to New , and then click DWORD Value .
  6. Type iexplore.exe , and then press Enter .
  7. Right-click iexplore.exe , and then click Modify .
  8. In the Value data box, type 1 , and then click OK .
  9. Exit Registry Editor.
