HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - TSST TS-H653N DVDRW Drive May Scratch Discs
This document only pertains to the PC models listed in the table below.
HP has recently discovered that some TSST TS-H653N DVDRW SuperMulti drives may scratch discs.
Only certain serial numbers of PC models listed below are potentially affected.

To determine if your HP PC should be serviced, download and run DVD-R/RW Drive Replacement (sp35183).
File requirements:
You must have a Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and a
TSST TS-H653N DVD-R/RW drive.
Download file size: 1.38M
You must be logged on as an administrator to install this update.
Installation instructions:

At the File Download screen, click the Save
button.
At the Save As screen, save the file to your Windows Desktop.
If a message appears stating that the file already exists, click YES
to overwrite file.
Double-click the icon for the update downloaded to your desktop, and then click NEXT
.
Follow on-screen instructions.
If prompted to restart the system upon completion of the update, click YES
and allow system to restart.
If your PC came with Linux or FreeDOS or your PC cannot access the Internet, call the
HP Support number
for your Region. An HP support agent will be able to determine if the PC requires service by referring to the serial number from the label on the back of the PC. | CAUTION:

If you have a PC model listed in the table and it contains a TSST TS-H653N DVDRW SuperMulti drive, to prevent possible damage to discs, please refrain from using the drive until you have determined if the PC requires service. |
