Most HP and Compaq notebook PCs include one or more of the following discs for restoring the notebook to its original configuration:

• Operating System CD or DVD (OSCD)
• Recovery DVD
• Driver Recovery CD (DRCD)
• Application Recovery CD (ARCD)

This document provides instructions for using the Driver Recovery CD or DVD and the Application Recovery CD or DVD. For information on restoring your operating system using the Operating System CD or DVD see: Repairing or Reinstalling Windows XP with the HP Operating System Disc

Overview

The DRCD, ARCD and Recovery DVD can be used to install the original drivers and software that came with your notebook PC. The discs can also be used to re-install drivers and software individually even if you are not completely restoring your PC. Use the instructions in this document to install all or any of the drivers and applications:

Install the software applications and hardware drivers using the Recovery DVD

Install the hardware drivers using the Driver Recovery CD

Install the Software Applications using the Application Recovery CD

Install the software applications and hardware drivers using the Recovery DVD

The Recovery DVD is included with some notebook PCs that are configured with DVD drives. Use the instructions in this section for installing software and drivers using the Recovery DVD.

1. While running Windows, insert the Recovery DVD into the optical drive.
   If the DVD does not open within several seconds, select Start > Run . Then type D:\SWSETUP\APPINSTL\SETUP.EXE (where D indicates the DVD drive).
2. The Software Setup screen will appear.
   • To install all of the recommended software applications and the hardware drivers on your notebook PC, click the Install button on the right.
   • To just install the hardware enabling drivers, uncheck the box next to Recommended Software Applications and click the Install button on the right.
   • To select specific drivers or applications, uncheck the box next to Recommended Software Applications and the box next to Hardware Enabling Drivers . Then click on the plus sign and add a check to the box next to the driver or software you wish to install and click the Install button on the right.
3. Allow the installation process to complete and then follow the prompts to restart the notebook.

   NOTE:

   The length of time necessary to install the software will vary depending on the number of components selected.

Install the hardware drivers using the Driver Recovery CD

The Driver Recovery CD is included with some notebook PCs. Use the instructions in this section for installing software and drivers using the DRCD.

• To install all of the recommended hardware drivers on your notebook PC, click the Install button on the right.
• To select specific drivers, uncheck the box next to Hardware Enabling Drivers . Then click on the plus sign and add a check to the box next to the driver or software you wish to install and click the Install button on the right.

Install the Software Applications using the Application Recovery CD

The Application Recovery CD is included with some notebook PCs. Use the instructions in this section for installing software using the ARCD.

• To install all of the recommended applications on your notebook PC, click the Install button on the right.
• To select specific software, uncheck the box next to Recommended Software Applications . Then click on the plus sign and add a check to the box next to the software you wish to install and click the Install button on the right.
