HP LaserJet 1200 Series Printers - PJL Commands Print out of DOS Applications in Microsoft(R) Windows XP

ISSUE:
When printing out of a DOS application in Microsoft(R) Windows XP to an HP LaserJet 1200 series printer, PJL commands may print out on the first page of the job or additional characters in the job are missing or replaced.
SOLUTION:
Follow these steps to correct this issue.
  1. Verify that the printer is pointing to the DOT4 port in the driver port settings.
    1. If the printer is configured to the LPT port, reassign it to the DOT4 port and resend the print job.
  2. If the printer is configured to the DOT4 port and still has erratic print, uninstall the full printer software.
  3. Reinstall the printer software, selecting the DOT4 port and configuring the port setting to the following option: Use any interrupt assigned .
CAUSE:
If the LPT port was assigned during the printer software installation, the proper bi-directional information exchange cannot operate properly, resulting in the printer misinterpreting some PJL commands. This misinterpretation causes the erratic print.
