HP Notebook PCs - UN2400 WWAN Module Cannot Change Firmware to A Different Provider or Control the WWAN Power State

DESCRIPTION

The un2400 Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) module cannot load the correct firmware or turn the module on or off when using a third party connection manager.

SCOPE

The specific notebook PCs affected by this issue are listed in the Hardware Platforms Affected section at the bottom of this advisory.

RESOLUTION

The notebook PC wireless module software integrates the options.text file to find the appropriate location of the module firmware. To resolve this issue, add the carrier option number to the appropriate file string:

  1. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QUALCOMM\QDLService .

  2. Double-click options.txt .

  3. Add \Packages\Option Number\AMSS.mbn after Service

    Example of Options.txt configured for Vodafone

    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\0\AMSS.mbn
    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\0\Apps.mbn

    Example of Options.txt configured for Telstra

    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\10\AMSS.mbn
    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\10\Apps.mbn

  4. Save the text file.

Microsoft Windows Vista

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Data\QUALCOMM\QDLService.

  2. Double-click options.txt .

  3. Add \Packages\Option Number\AMSS.mbn after Service

    Example of Options.txt configured for Vodafone:

    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\0\AMSS.mbn
    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\0\Apps.mbn

    Example of Options.txt configured for Telstra:

    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\10\AMSS.mbn
    C:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages\10\Apps.mbn

  4. Save the text file.

To control the WWAN module power state, please use HP Wireless Assistant. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) mode may be used by opening the application and toggling the WWAN module from ON to OFF. The Command Line Interface (CLI) may also be used to toggle the Wireless device state.

Example:
wireless.exe
wireless.exe wwan on

All of the options can be seen by typing wireless.exe /?
