HP Notebook PCs - Internal Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) Broadband Wireless Module Not Detected If Notebook Battery is Removed

DESCRIPTION
The internal Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) broadband wireless module is not powered on if the notebook PC main battery is removed. This occurs even if the notebook PC is on AC power and the main battery is removed.
SCOPE
The specific notebook PCs affected by this issue are listed in the Hardware Platforms Affected section at the bottom of this advisory.
RESOLUTION
The Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) module is functioning as designed. The WWAN module cannot be active while the SIM card is accessible.
This is due to carrier certification requiring this feature being present for the following reasons:
- This prevents SIM fraud
- This prevents any possible corruption if the SIM is removed while the notebook PC powers on
