DESCRIPTION

The HP Fibre Channel Agent, cmafcad, gathers fibre channel information for the Fibre Channel Agent MIB. This information includes FCA host controller, array, accelerator, logical drive, physical drive, chassis, power supply, fan status, temperature, and backplane information.

HP recommends that customers utilizing non-HP unsupported Storage Subsystems and third-party fibre storage enclosures do not enable cmafcad.

DETAILS

The HP Fibre Channel Agent was designed to perform optimally on certain HP Storage Subsystems and should only be enabled while running the following HP Storage Subsystems with VMware ESX Server:

  • HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1000
  • HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1500
  • HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 2000

To prevent SCSI anomalies from occurring, HP recommends that cmafcad be disabled on all other third-party storage subsystems and third-party fibre storage enclosures running any of the following versions of VMware ESX Server:

  • VMware ESX Server 2.5.x
  • VMware ESX Server 3.0.x
  • VMware ESX Server 3.5.x
  • VMware ESX Server 3i version 3.5.x

Perform the following to disable the HP Fibre Channel Agent:

  1. Log into the Vmware ESX Server host service console. Stop the agents by issuing the following command:'service hpasm stop.
  2. Open the file /opt/compaq/cma.conf in a text editor.
  3. Add exclude cmafcad to the top of the file. If the exclude line already exists, append cmafcad to the line. For example,

    [root@localhost compaq]# cat cma.conf |more

    # Thu Jul 31 06:53:51 CDT 2008

    exclude cmafcad cmhp

    # - END -

    ############################################################

  4. Save the file and exit.
  5. Restart the agents by issuing the following command: service hpasm start.
