IMPORTANT:
The firmware upgrades listed in the Scope section below are required to prevent the issues detailed below. HP recommends performing the upgrades at the customer's earliest convenience. Failure to perform the required action could result in the potential for subsequent errors to occur on the SAS hard drives listed in the Scope section below.

The HP SAS hard drives (listed in the Scope section below) may randomly become inaccessible during normal operation. When this occurs, the drives will remain inaccessible even after resetting the drives or controller or after rebooting the server.
Note:
Proactive replacement of these drives due to this issue is neither warranted nor authorized.
SCOPE
Any of the HP SAS hard drives listed in Table 1 (below) and running one of the firmware versions listed under "Firmware."

Proactive replacement of these drives due to this issue is neither warranted nor authorized.
To prevent these drives from becoming inaccessible, or to restore them to normal operation when this occurs, upgrade to the corrected firmware versions listed in Table 2 (below) by clicking on the Smart Component number below or by searching on the Smart Component number listed in the table. Begin the search at the Software and Driver Downloads web page at the following URL and enter the Smart Component number in the Search box at the upper right side of the screen:
For example, Figure 1 (below) indicates the search box location where the Smart Component number should be entered.

To return these drives to normal operation (if this occurs before the firmware can be upgraded) perform either of the following:
- For hot-pluggable drives only, hot-remove and hot-add the affected drives.
- Gracefully shut down and power off the server (and any attached enclosure). Power the enclosure back on and then power on the server.
