HP LaserJet P2015 Printer Series - Installation Options
 Overview
The HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software can be used with the HP LaserJet P2015 printer in the following configurations:
Direct Connection
: Install the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software on a computer that is directly connected to the product through a USB port and running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP.
In this configuration, the printer is not shared. A single user has complete physical control over the printer. In this configuration, access is available to all of the printer features.
Network connection using onboard networking
: Install the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP and that has access to a local area network (LAN) to which the HP LaserJet P2015 printer is also connected . The HP LaserJet P2015n, the HP LaserJet P2015dn, and the HP LaserJet P2015x printers have onboard networking that connects to a LAN through a 10/100Base-T (RJ-45) port.
The following elements are required for a networked HP LaserJet P2015 printer:
Microsoft Windows installation for direct connections
Use the following instructions to install the product software on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP. |
NOTE:

Do not connect the HP LaserJet P2015 printer to the computer until the software prompt appears. |

NOTE:

The user must have Administrator privileges to install the printing-system software on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP. |
Quit all open programs.
Insert the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software CD into the CD-ROM drive.

If the CD does not start automatically, click Start
, click Run
, and then browse to and double-click the SETUP.EXE file in the root directory of the CD. |
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software.
When the installation is nearly complete, the Finish
dialog box appears and a test page can be printed. Click the Print a test page
check box, and then click Finish
to finish the installation and print a test page.
If prompted to restart the computer, click Yes
.
Installing the print drivers by using Microsoft Windows Plug-and-Play or the add-printer wizard
The HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software installer does not support Microsoft Windows 98 SE, Microsoft Windows Me, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. To install the print drivers on computers running any of these operating systems, use a plug-and-play installation for direct USB printer connections, or an add-printer-wizard installation for network-connected printers.
During a plug-and-play or add-printer-wizard installation, the following drivers are installed:
If the computer is running Microsoft Windows 98 SE or Microsoft Windows Me and an HP LaserJet P2015n, HP LaserJet P2015d, HP LaserJet P2015dn, or HP LaserJet P2015x printer is in use, configure the driver to include the advanced features of these printer models after the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software is installed. Follow these steps to configure the driver:
Click Start
, click Settings
and then click Printers
.
Right-click the printer icon for the HP LaserJet P2015 printer, and then click Properties
.
On the Configure
tab, click the drop-down menu, select the printer model, and then click OK

Plug-and-play installation for direct USB connection in Microsoft Windows 98 SE
Up to five events might occur when using Microsoft Windows Plug-and-Play to install the HP LaserJet P2015 print driver software on a computer running Microsoft Windows 98 SE. |
NOTE:

The SETUP.EXE program on the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system CD is not supported in Microsoft Windows 98 SE, Microsoft Windows Me, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. For these operating systems, use Microsoft Plug-and-Play for direct USB connections or the add-printer-wizard installation for network connections to install the print drivers. If SETUP.EXE is run in these operating systems, an error message appears: The operating system on this computer is not supported
. |
Follow these steps to install the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software on a computer running Microsoft Windows 98 SE.
Verify that the HP LaserJet P2015 printer is turned On.
Quit all open programs.
Insert the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer. |

If a dialog box that contains an Install
button appears, click Exit
and continue with step 4. |
Connect a USB cable between the printer and the computer.
When the Add New Hardware Wizard
dialog box appears, click Next

Click the Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended)
option button, and then click Next

Select the CD-ROM
check box and clear all other check boxes. Click Next

Click Next

Click Next

Click Finish

The remaining plug-and-play events for the HP Embedded Web Server, USB Printing Support, and HP LaserJet P2015 PCL 6 driver are automatic.
Click Start
, Settings
, and then Printers
to confirm that the HP LaserJet P2015 PCL 6 driver is installed.
Plug-and-play installation for a direct USB connection in Microsoft Windows Me
Up to five events might occur when Microsoft Windows Plug-and-Play is used to install the HP LaserJet P2015 print driver software on a computer running Microsoft Windows Me. |

Click Start
, Settings
, and then Printers
to confirm that the HP LaserJet P2015 driver is installed.

Add-Printer Wizard installation for network connections in Microsoft Windows Server 2003
The SETUP.EXE program on the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system CD is not supported in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Use the Microsoft Add-Printer Wizard for network connections or using a plug-and-play installation for direct USB connections to install the printer driver.
Follow these steps to install the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software on a computer running Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
Quit all open programs.
Insert the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system CD into the CD-ROM drive on the computer.

If the CD starts automatically, click Exit
to exit the installation program and continue with step 3. |
Open Printers and Faxes
and double-click Add Printer
.
Click Next
on the Welcome
screen.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
When prompted for a location of the driver, browse to the following location on the HP LaserJet P2015 software CD:
:\drivers\Win2000_XP |
NOTE:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 uses the same print driver as Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. |
If prompted to restart the computer, click Yes
.
Microsoft Windows installation for networked computers
Each networked computer that has the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software installed has access to all of the printer features over a network connection. This access is through on-board networking that comes standard on the HP LaserJet P2015n, HP LaserJet P2015dn and HP LaserJet P2015x printers.
To install the HP LaserJet P2015 printing-system software on networked computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP, follow these steps. |
NOTE:

When the Installer software prompts to select how the printer will be connected, select Through the network
, and then click Next
. Follow the on-screen instructions.
When the installation is completed, a setup dialog box appears that asks whether or not to print a test page. Click Yes

If prompted to restart the computer, click Yes
.
