Red Hat has communicated a fixed lifecycle for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. HP would like to communicate the milestones and lifecycle strategy as it relates to HP products. The lifecycle strategy is for all hardware platforms in which HP supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. This Maintenance Support will be available for the duration of customer support agreements. Once HP stops selling Red Hat Enterprise Linux, support will continue to be available for customers who have active support agreements.

DETAILS

In order for Red Hat to support their customers, they will provide errata updates and HP will support all errata updates. Errata updates will contain security, bug fixes and enhancements. For more details on Red Hat's lifecycle strategy for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, refer to the following Red Hat URL:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

This includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 AS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 ES, Red Hat Enterprise 4 WS, and Red Hat Desktop.

General Availability (GA) of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 from Red Hat was February 22, 2005 (02/22/2005).

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3

This includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES, Red Hat Enterprise WS, and Red Hat Desktop.
General Availability (GA) of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 from Red Hat was October 22, 2003 (10/22/2003).

HP's Full Support including Hardware Updates is available October 22, 2003 (10/22/2003) through April 30, 2006 (4/30/2006). Full Support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's new hardware updates are included and supported in the next errata kernel update for this release. This is generally for a length of two and a half years after the general availability date of a release.

Deployment Support is available October 22, 2003 (10/22/2003) through October 31, 2006 (10/31/2006). Deployment Support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's security and bug fixes are included and supported within each of the errata releases or updates. This is generally for a length of 3 years after the general availability date of a release.

Maintenance Support is available November 01, 2006 (11/1/2006) through October 31, 2010 (10/31/2010). Maintenance Support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's Security issues and critical bug fixes are released by Red Hat via an errata/security update.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1

General Availability date of release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 from Red Hat was May 17, 2002 (5/17/2002).

HP's Full Support including Hardware Updates is available May 17, 2002 (5/17/2002) through November 30, 2004 (11/30/2004). Full support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's new hardware updates are included and supported in the next errata kernel update for this release. This is generally for a length of two and a half years after the general availability date of a release.

Deployment Support is available May 17, 2002 (5/17/2002) through May 31, 2005 (5/31/2005). Deployment Support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's security and bug fixes are included and supported within each of the errata releases or updates. This is generally for a length of 3 years after the general availability date of a release.

Maintenance Support is available June 01, 2005 (6/1/2005) through May 31, 2009 (5/31/2009). Maintenance Support is defined as HP will work with Red Hat to ensure HP's Security issues and critical bug fixes are released by Red Hat via an errata/security update. This Maintenance Support will be available for the duration of customer support agreements.
