HP Docking Station
The HP Docking Station provides the convenience of full port replication capability and cable management in a space-saving design.
The notebook can be powered on or off when connecting it to and removing it from the HP Docking Station. The blue Docking LED on the Docking Station shows a successful connection and will not illuminate until the notebook is powered on and the Docking Station is connected to electrical power.
The Docking Station will not have full functionality unless it is connected to electrical power. This also allows the notebook battery to remain charged while the notebook is connected to the Docking Station.
When the notebook is connected to the Docking Station, you may attach external devices to the connectors on the rear and left side of the Docking Station or to the connectors on the notebook.

HP Advanced Docking Station
The HP Advanced Docking Station provides the convenience of full port replication capability, cable management, and extra expansion bays in a space-saving design.
The Advanced Docking Station contains a MultiBay II (9.5mm) bay for MultiBay II optical and hard disk drives and an ExpressCard slot.
The notebook can be powered on or off when connecting it to and removing it from the HP Advanced Docking Station. The blue Docking LED on the Advanced Docking Station shows a successful connection and will not illuminate until the notebook is powered on and the Advanced Docking Station is connected to electrical power.
The Advanced Docking Station must be connected to electrical power to provide full functionality. This also allows the notebook battery to remain charged while the notebook is connected to the Advanced Docking Station.
